Project Officer, Global Health Support

Job Description


Working with and reporting to Bahir Dar field manager, the Project Officer will be responsible for the Planning, organizing, coordinating and supporting the Reproductive, Maternal, New born and Child Health (RMNCH) project in Gonji Kolola Woreda of West Gojam Zone. He/She will be responsible to oversee the day to day operation of the project in six health centers in the woreda; tasked to strengthening the communication and awareness creation activities related to the project.


 Specific Responsibilities



  • Plan and effectively implements RMNCH project both at the health facility and community level; and ensures that the project is implemented according to the standards and approved GHSP agreements, project document signed with the regional government.

  • Support and actively participates in the demand generation activities to improve the uptake of ANC, intuitional delivery, Family Planning and other related service being provided in the health centers in the woreda.

  • Ensure that health providers in the public facilities have been trained on RMNCH based on the project implementation protocol.

  • Facilitate and lead the monthly and quarterly meetings with providers, HEWs and other community members in related to the project.

  • Works closely with the woreda health office, health centre team, local partners and other key stakeholders to enhance and strengthen the RMNCH project implemented in the woreda.

  • Initiates, plans, follows up and directly participates in the effective implementation of trainings for the health center staff and other partners involving in the project implementation.

  • Conducts periodic supportive supervision and quality audit to the health centers in collaboration with the MSIE field manager, woreda health office experts. Produces monthly, quarterly and annual reports and submit to immediate supervisor in agreed time frame

  • Collects monthly reports from the health centers and community promoters/HEWs submits in a consolidated form to the Field Manager;

  • Ensures the proper use of  equipment’s and supplies provided to the health center

  • Ensures the availability of recording, reporting and referral formats, guidelines, manuals and job aids to be used by the health center and community promoters/HEWs in adequate quantity and trucks referral linkages of service utilization;

  • Maintains proper documentation of the project  operation in his/her area of operation;

  • Renders support to the health centers  in proper recording, documenting and for timely dispatch  of reports;

  • Undertakes all other activities assigned to him/her by his/her line manager;



Person Specification


1 Required Qualification


  • B.Sc. Degree in Public Health, Nursing or related field or

  • BA degree in any relevant social science field with Diploma in nursing.

2 Experiences


  • A minimum of 6 Years relevant  experience  in planning, monitoring, supervision, and provision of technical support in the area of RMNCH

3. Skills required, Attitudes and Attributes


  • Good oral and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Good problem solving/Analytical skills

  • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages

  • Independent, forward looking, and able to deliver results with minimum supervision
