Ethiopia: Program Intern - Ethiopia

Duty Station: Save the Children International-Pan Africa Office
Type: Internship for 6 months


Purpose:


Save the Children has a small global advocacy office in Addis Ababa (alongside offices in Brussels, Geneva and New York) that is registered with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the name of “Pan African Office”. The office has responsibility for (i) engaging with international and regional institutions such as the African Union Commission and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, and (ii) providing support to Save the Children programmes across the African continent. The office also hosts a number of technical advisors who are focused on a full sub-Saharan Africa portfolio.


KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY


  • Compile and update every 6 months the contacts of Permanent Representatives (Ambassadors) and Development Partners based in Addis Ababa

  • Provide an updated information on AU calendar of events to enable designing engagement plans by the PAO

  • Develop and update each year data bank on NGOs/CSOs engaging with the AU

  • Research and develop an inventory of AU Permanent Representatives based in Addis Ababa, with diplomatic influence in PAO’s thematic focus areas to enable alliances and engagements with them

  • Develop a system of informing staff on AU upcoming events, at least one month ahead of time

  • Coordinate Save the Children’s support to AU’s preparation of and our participation at the ACERWC Sessions as well as the CSO forums including in relation to regional and country offices as well as relevant Global Initiatives.

  • Develop a road Map (budget, plan for involvement of different actors) to support Save the Children input and support to the AU’s preparation and participation at different meetings.

  • Coordinate the input from Save the Children anther actors leading up to the major forums and meetings.

  • Ensure compilation and sharing of high quality information of added value on the AU summits as well as ministerial meetings and Sessions of the ACERWC to be included in the monthly Advocacy Update

  • Provide support for meetings, training sessions/workshops organized or attended by members of the AAO team

  • Prepare relevant advocacy briefs and other background materials in close collaboration with the TAT Members and country/regional offices

  • Coordinate Save the Children’s support to children’s participation in AU related meetings

  • Inform staff of events taking place at the UNECA

  • Developing a database for the contact details of AU Commissioners and their personal assistant

  • Carries out other related tasks, as assigned.

Education and Experience


· Must have Master’s Degree and experience preferably in humanitarian organization


  • using a variety of software packages, such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, etc., to produce correspondence and documents and to maintain
