Job Description:
This is a key ground floor opportunity for the right individual to play a pivotal development role (involving experimental design, analysis, manufacturing, and testing) for improving polymer resin formulations and their applications in composite materials systems, employing polymer monomers, nano materials, and nanotechnology.

Additionally, this person would be responsible for characterization of developed materials, technical analyses and reports, presentations, patent documentation, proposals, and research papers.

Duties include working closely with an interdisciplinary group of scientists and engineers from industry and academia, lead development and optimization efforts of new and existing nano materials, including synthesis, functionalization, surface modification, characterization and testing of nano materials including those incorporated into polymer composite systems.

Actively participate in sample preparations, including synthesis and functionalization, mixing, molding, layup, fabrication, and testing.

Analyze test results and refine formulations accordingly.

Supervise lab assistants, technicians, and train in the operation of analytical test equipment.

Position reports to VP Technology, with a potential early managerial track.

Requirements:
Minimum qualifications: PhD in Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Material Science with an emphasis in nano materials development and applications with a min. 6 years of research and development experience (with 2 years in industry strongly preferred).

Extensive hands-on experience in synthesis, surface functionalization and characterization of nano materials including CNTs, graphenes, other carbon allotropes, SiC, nano clays, etc.

Knowledge and experience in the development and characterization of nano materials, and their inclusion, and characterization of properties and performance evaluations in larger host materials and structures.

Experience formulating with carbon nano materials and synthesis and functionalization techniques as well as their applications.

Proficiency with characterization instrumentation; experienced with Optical Microscopy as well as SEM, TEM, and AFM, XRD systems; familiarity with Raman Spectroscopy, XPS & UV-Vis, etc.

Experience with methods to optimize distribution of nano materials in carrier/matrix systems. Familiarity with polymer composite materials and the incorporation of nano materials into them.

Experience in a Mac/PC environment, including MS Office.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Desirable Qualifications: Experience with Aerospace composite systems, resin infusion systems, working knowledge of molding processes of thermoset and thermoplastic polymers and composites, including thermal and thermo mechanical analysis, process development, optimization, and characterization.

Familiarity with material specifications and quality standards, including ISO and AS

Familiarity with nano materials safety, storage, handling, and disposal issues.

Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Mission in Addis Ababa and in close coordination
with the Head of Operations in IOM Nairobi, the successful candidate will be responsible for
managing and overseeing the processing of resettlement cases from Ethiopia to the United
States under the US Refugee Admissions Programme (USRAP) and other resettlement
countries as per the respective resettlement agreement terms.
Core functions/ responsibilities:
1. Monitor the operational and logistic support to the United States Resettlement Admissions
Programme (USRAP), manage departure processing, including pre-embarkation and airport
processing in Ethiopia.

2. Monitor departures to the United States (US), Canada, Australia and Europe and other
countries, as well as prepare and distribute monthly reports, including status reports for
resettlement cases for each resettlement country. Report on airlines usage and project code
reports. Coordinate with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) at Addis
Ababa and field office level on refugee documentation and standardization of resettlement
procedures; participate in contingency planning for new refugee arrivals. Coordinate with
appropriate Government of Ethiopia authorities at Addis Ababa and sub-office level on IOM
movement operations and provide technical assistance and advice in response to government
requests.
3. Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with IOM partners including
Embassy representatives, US Citizenship & Immigration Services (CIS), Resettlement Service
Center (RSC), UNHCR, offices and local authorities in Ethiopia, as well as with relevant IOM
missions with a view of coordinating operational activities in all matters pertaining to the logistics
and transport of refugees and other categories of migrants.
4. Manage the day-to-day operational activities of the Operations Department staff in Addis
Ababa, Shire and Jijiga Field Offices. Conduct periodic and annual staff performance reviews
and appraisals; provide coaching and training to staff as appropriate.
5. Liaise with the Admin/Finance Department to ensure the timely reconciliation and payment
of invoices from operations-related service providers.
6. Ensure close coordination of Operations Department activities with the Migration Health
Department in Addis Ababa, Shire and Jijiga in order to ensure efficient service delivery. Liaise
with the Migration Health Department (MHD) on post US (Citizenship and Immigration Services
(CIS) processing.
7. Prepare related budgets for future/potential projects in close coordination with relevant
departments and entities for activities such as but not limited to repatriation movements, visa
issuance, biometric capture and other consular related activities.
8. Ensure that IOM Ethiopia activities comply with updates to the Handbook of Internationals
Tariffs and Movement Management Manuals.
9. Identify and implement measures to maintain a high level of integrity in the programme.
Prepare and analyze projections in order to foresee movement trends and plan yearly accurate
movement statistics.
10. Be responsible for the overall management of the IOM Transit Center in Addis Ababa and
supervise all duties related to its daily activities.

SFEL integrates an Eco-Lodge and organic restaurant, a model Permaculture farm and gardens, a Permaculture design training facility, and runs a program of trekking and community based cultural activities in Konso. SFEL’s project objectives are to promote alternative livelihoods for the Konso community through facilitating community inclusion in tourism activities, and to promote food security locally and more widely in Ethiopia, through offering training and consultancy services in Permaculture to local stake-holders.

Permaculture (PC) is a system for thinking about, designing and creating diverse food-production systems which work in harmony with natural processes, allowing communities to produce for their needs, while maintaining the ecology that supports them. It integrates ecological agriculture, rain-water harvesting, soil and water conservation, small scale irrigation, nutrition gardens, tree nurseries, small livestock, appropriate labour-saving design-technology, alternative energy and nutrients based on locally available resources.

Our Permaculture Design Courses (PDCs) follow the standard international 72-hour PDC curriculum and are certificated. We offer PDCs to international students (including our interns) who have the chance to participate on as well as assess our PKSP schools. We also use our on-site demonstration forma for practical demonstration and design exercises for our trainees.

Our lead trainer and PC consultant is Mr Tichafa Makovere is a native of Zimbabwe. He has practiced Permaculture for 15 years around southern Africa, working as lead trainer for the Regional Permaculture in Schools and Colleges Program (ReSCOPE), training and implementing PC in Zimbabwe, Malawi, Botswana, South Africa, Angola, Zambia even recently in Uganda. Our volunteers live and work at SFEL, participating in the day to day running and development of our demonstration farm, also visiting and participating at our PKSP schools. Volunteers also undertake activities to support and benefit the local community, including: teaching local children (private tuition or taking classes in the local schools), playing soccer with/training a local youths’ group, assisting with maintenance and on-going development of our appropriate design-technology models on site – such as composting toilets, wind power generators (which we have already built) and working to develop new models – such as solar cookers – which can be demonstrated for the local community as transferable design technologies. They also have time to enjoy trekking and community based activities programs around Konso on the week-ends.

Our Internships are a 12 week intensive introduction to and immersion in Permaculture design and application in the rural African environment. General Summary:

AECOM International Development seeks Chief of Party candidates for an anticipated USAID-funded SME Development and Finance Project in Ethiopia. AECOM seeks a Chief of Party with experience in the following technical areas:


Private Sector Development/Capacity Building (with emphasis on SMEs)

Financial product development (e.g. leasing, insurance, warehouse receipts)
Qualifications:

· Ten to fifteen (10-15) years of strong program and/or technical component management experience on USAID-funded economic growth programs related to private sector development and financial sector development with a focus on SMEs.
· Master’s degree or higher in a relevant field (Economics, Finance, MBA etc.).
· Demonstrated technical expertise in one of the areas outlined above.
· A strong working knowledge of development and foreign aid, with emphasis on the priorities of USAID.
· Experience managing complex economic growth projects. Experience in Africa preferred.
· Fluency in written and spoken English required. Amharic language skills highly desirable though not required.
· Strong management skills and excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.

The Ethiopia Country Director will be responsible for the delivery of FARM-Africa’s Ethiopian programme and its strategic goals. You will lead the Ethiopian senior management team, working with them to build staff capacity to deliver well managed projects.

You will be responsible for managing and coordinating all operational aspects of the programme, including relationships with relevant stakeholders, a staff of approximately 140 and the annual expenditure budget. You will also play a key role contributing to the overall strategy and future growth of FARM-Africa.

You will have a successful track record of working within the NGO sector and a strong understanding of donor environments, working closely with communities, government and the private sector. You will have lived and worked in sub-Saharan Africa, have excellent hands-on programme, financial, strategic and human resource management experience. Exceptional multi-tasking, networking, relationship-building and financial management skills are pre-requisites.
