DRIVER- 3 Position


A. Driving:


·         To drive Oxfam vehicle at a speed which is adjusted to the road and weather conditions, and to drive with consideration for the safety of the passengers, other road users, the load, and the technical state of the vehicle


·         To wear seat belt and ensuring that the passengers in the front seats also wear their seatbelts at all times when the vehicle is in motion


·         To decide whether or not to attempt to cross a difficult section of road, to continue after a technical defect has been detected, or to delay the travel.


·         To immediately notify his / her superior as well as the local authorities in case of any accident in which he / she is involved


·         To place the car keys on the dashboard in Oxfam DD office


·         To be sensitive about convenience of passengers particularly of women in the vehicle


 


B. Mechanical:


·         To immediately report any technical failure or damage and need for maintenance to the appropriate member of staff, and to note details in the vehicle log book


·         To keep track of the scheduled service time of the vehicle, in order to make sure that servicing is performed in time


·         To accurately fill in the vehicle log book after performing service checks and/or repair activities to the vehicles


 


C.  Administration:


·         To keep his/her driving license valid and ready for inspection


·         To make sure all necessary vehicle documents (e.g. insurance, registration documents, etc) are kept in the vehicle and are up to date


·         To correctly fill in the vehicle log book with details of each journey and maintain it properly


 


D. General


·         To ensure correct loading and unloading of the vehicle considering the maximum loading capacity, proper distribution and securing of the load


·         To keep the vehicle assigned to him / her clean and road-worthy


·         To refuel the vehicle whenever necessary or when the level get below half of the tank capacity


·         To carry out the necessary daily and weekly check-ups as specified in (programme transport or vehicle policy)


·         To ensure the safe parking, whenever possible in an Oxfam compound, of the vehicle at night, during breaks and when it is not in use


·         To verify the presence of the vehicle log book, discharge of responsibility forms, the tools and spare parts at all time in the Oxfam vehicle as mentioned and signed by him/her in the log book, a complete first aid kit and spare tyre(s) in good condition


·         To be aware of radio procedures and operation, and to act as a mobile radio operator with the vehicle


·         To perform any other duties as requested by his/her manager.


In case of war, civil disturbance or arbitrary malicious intent, in consultation with the logistician, to safe-guard the vehicle, either by disabling it or by driving the vehicle to safety, under the condition that this effort does not jeopardize the personal safety of any staff involved



Job Requirements



·         Valid 3rd grade driving  license (4X4 vehicle), sound driving skills with at least 5 years of driving experience preferably with I/NGOs or UN organisations in Somali Region


·         Secondary school education or equivalent (at least). Preference will be given to those who have advanced mechanical skills


·         Good knowledge and basic skills on 4X4 vehicle servicing and maintenance


·         Excellent command over Somali language


·         Reasonable / Average command over English and Somali language


·         Flexibility and willingness to work long hours and under high pressure


·         Attentive to details


·         Matured, hardworking, enthusiastic, and helpful to people


·         Share Oxfam’s development values, especially, gender sensitivity and respect for all
