Land O’Lakes is seeking an experienced financial manager for the role of finance manager on an anticipated livestock genetics improvement program funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation—Public-Private Partnership for Artificial Insemination Delivery (PAID) in East Africa. The future program’s goal is to help farmers access more improved and appropriate genetics—a key opportunity to improve production of milk and to tackle systemic poverty. With our private sector partners we will test and introduce new reproductive technologies (sexed semen, embryo transfer, in-vitro fertilization, etc.) to increase the supply of improved heifers.
The Finance Manager will be based in Ethiopia and will provide advanced accounting and financial oversight to the PAID Program and finance staff both in Ethiopia and Tanzania. This position assists and supports the Program Director in all accounting and financial reporting activities, while providing support to the program team surrounding any and all financial and administrative issues. S/He will ensure the accuracy and timeliness of all monthly accounting entries for the program, while working closely with the Program Director and Country Directors to monitor program spending. S/He will guide and assist accountants and other program staff to prepare, revise and monitor budgets for their ongoing activities. S/He will work with the HQ based Program Officer to ensure timely responses to all finance concerns and to review expenditures relating to all accounting documents for accuracy and consistency with donor regulations and program guidelines. S/He will reconcile and report on all balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis and assist management in limiting financial risk. In program start-up, s/he will assist in the implementation and maintenance of the accounting system and ensure that all administrative procedures are clearly defined and enforced. S/he will maintain all HR files, administer benefits and manage all human resources for the Ethiopia office.
Required Qualifications:
Degree in Accounting or other relevant Business Degree and ACCA/CPA qualifications; Advanced knowledge of computers and MS Excel; Advanced oral and written communication skills; Detail oriented, proactive and flexible; Previous experience in managing, reconciling and re-aligning budgets for large donor-funded program; Honest, hard-working team player capable of working with minimal supervision and who is willing to admit mistakes and learn from them, while meeting deadlines
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior working experience with the Deltek Cost Point Accounting system helpful; Prior experience on a Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation project helpful.
