MAIN OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITIONCarry out laboratory activities, in accordance with his/her instructions and MSF protocols, safety measures and hygiene standards, in order to help obtaining lab results that will help to determine patient’s treatment.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
Manage all MSF laboratory activities in MSF lab, by insuring the provision of a high quality service, through the use of acceptable MSF quality control protocols.According to medical prescription, prepare and perform clinical exams/tests with appropriate techniques and following MSF protocols and procedures. This function includes, among others:Taking blood samples.Centrifuge samples.Use of Rapid diagnostic TestsPerform laboratory exams (serology, hematology, biochemistry, bacteriology or parasitological, according to context of the mission).Ensure proper reporting and registration of the sample results in order to keep a written track of activity and give information to the relevant persons, ensuring confidentiality of patients.Responsible for ordering and monitoring the consumption of reagents and and proper use of all laboratory equipment.Ensure proper usage of all MSF laboratory material.Ensure correct handling and transporting of specimen and samples to be analyzed in referral labs.Follows universal precautions and waste management procedures within the laboratory including, but not exclusively:Handling of biological specimensSafe disposal of sharps & potentially infected materialDecontamination & disinfection proceduresWearing of protective clothingTo ensure proper use, safety, maintenance and prompt service of the laboratory machines plus all other laboratory instruments.Keep organized the data collection system of laboratory results and all information generated from the analysis done.Report all relevant information linked to the activity in the laboratory to the line manager, especially the loss/robbery/damage of laboratory equipment or medicines.Facilitate training for all new lab staff (both MSF and MoH), and other non-lab staff when called upon.
