The Logistic department of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Delegation in Ethiopia, would like to fill vacant Driver position based in Addis Ababa with frequent travel to regions.
Term of employment: 1 year (may be renewed based on operational needs)
Duties and Responsibilities:
Driving
Drive ICRC vehicles for city trips and field missions, according to car-pool instructions and planning
Strictly and consistently observe official driving rules & regulations
Strictly and consistently observe ICRC driving rules & regulations
Always drive calmly and carefully, respecting all other users of the road; avoid reckless or dangerous behavior
Always drive in such a way as to conserve fuel
Vehicles
Ensure efficient use of vehicles
Closely monitor position of all vehicles and drivers
Organize and monitor vehicle cleaning
Organize and monitor refueling (according to instructions from Fleet Management)
Closely monitor vehicle log-books (according to instructions from Fleet Management)
Monitor vehicle inventory (according to instructions from Fleet Management)
Monitor vehicles’ technical condition; report to Fleet Management for maintenance/repairs
Passenger
Only accept passengers that are allowed to board ICRC vehicles (as per ICRC rules & regulations)
Always drive in such a way as to minimize risks and maximize comfort
Provide basic information about delegation, city and country
Act as an interpreter whenever necessary
Assist with loading and offloading of personal effects
Maintain good personal hygiene (i.e., avoid dirt and smells) and neat dressing habits
Cargo
Always drive in such a way as to avoid damage or loss
Handle shipping documents (Waybills, etc.) with utmost care and according to relevant procedures
Handle all cargo with utmost care; the driver is fully responsible for any cargo from the moment he receives it (driver signs Waybill) to the moment he hands it over (receiver signs Waybill)
Trip & mission
Operate HF and VHF radio communication equipment according to ICRC rules & regulations
Update log-book before and after each trip (for long missions: before and after each trip segment)
Immediately report any incident, accident or mechanical failure
Maintain constant awareness of surroundings; immediately report any unusual situation or event that may affect the trip/mission itself or ICRC operations in general
