Background Information – Job-specific


UNOPS and the ECA have partnered together to deliver on a project that will put in place the critical business systems and services to enable the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) to go beyond its current regular operations and effectively deliver on its Business Plan mandate of becoming Africa’s premier think tank. Five specific outcomes are foreseen, which are the results of the implementation plans of four corporate strategies introduced for communications, publications, knowledge management and ICT for Development. When attained, the outcomes will result in a sustainable increase in the visibility and impact of the organization’s work in the areas of policy research and knowledge delivery. This recruitment initiative is carried out by UNOPS in support of ECA’s Public Information and Knowledge Management Division (PIKMD) strategic intent. It is with this objective that UNOPS advertises these opportunities in partnership with ECA.


Functional Responsibilities


Within delegated authority, the Print Finisher is responsible for operating, maintaining and troubleshooting ECA’s printing finishing equipment. Specifically this entails carrying out the following Print finishing operational functions:


  • Interprets all technical specifications of the jobs received from the Printing sub-unit into printing finishing operations and recommend the best and the most economical process to achieve the desired results.

  • Manages all quality parameters in the digital photocopying, print finishing operations and distribution to ensure adherence to best practice in every processes to maintain high quality of all the Commissions’ publications and documents.

  • Coordinates the work of the staff in the sub- unit operating the heavy duty photocopying and print finishing machines as per finishing technical specifications required either side stitched, saddle stitch, perfect binding by drawing the covers on the folded and collated sections within the scheduled time to meet the desired delivery deadlines.

  • Advises and implement better working methodology and distribution to improve productivity and quality in achieving desired goals for the Unit and advises on replacement of old and obsolete equipment

  • Ensures proper record keeping for distribution and all materials and time spent on each operation and ensures smooth handling of jobs from one operation to another.

  • Manages and ensures timely dispatch of documents to both internal and external clients

  • Performs basic maintenance, cleaning, greasing, oiling of print finishing machines, ensures strict follow up in all preventive maintenance schedules, and other duties as directed by the supervisor/Chief of the Unit.

  • Undertakes any other work assigned by the Chief or the Supervisor of the Unit.

Education/Experience/Language requirements


Education:


High School Diploma is required and Diploma or certificate from a recognized College of printing will be added advantage.


Experience:


At least five years of experience in a busy Print shop operating and maintaining modern print finishing equipment. Knowledge of UN rules and publications policy manual is desirable.


Language:


Fluency in oral and written English is required.

Contract type, level and duration


This is a local position and therefore it is open to only Nationals of Ethiopia.


Contract type: Local Individual Contractor


Contract level: LICA 5


Contract duration: 1 year with possibility of extension ( Subject to satisfactory performance and funds availability)
