Emergency Health & Nutrition Program Manager

Job Description



Food for the Hungry Ethiopia (FHE), a non-governmental organization engaged in relief and development activities, would like to invite potential candidates to apply for the following position:


Basic Responsibilities: 


  • Centrally coordinate and provide technical support for emergency health and nutrition as well as water sanitation and hygiene (WASH) in all FH/E operation areas.

  • Ensure that emergency health and nutrition as well as WASH projects are implemented in line with the plan.

  • Follow up on the implementation of the emergency health, nutrition and WASH related activities. This entails regular field visit, regular communication through telephone and email messages.

  • Manage staff under his/her supervision and provide technical support for all field staff.

  • Review and develop key messages on emergency health, nutrition and WASH.

  • Ensure that resources are utilized as planned

  • Facilitate the preparation of case histories/best practices and share among projects and partners

  • Conduct initial nutrition sector-specific assessments and make feasible recommendations for appropriate intervention, both for emergency health, nutrition and WASH response and longer- term program.

  • Design emergency health, nutrition and WASH related proposals and secure funding from potential donors

  • Take the lead in development of, or provide technical review for, emergency response proposals to be submitted by FH/E to scale up the current health, nutrition and WASH program.

  • Establish and manage emergency health, nutrition and WASH  response projects in consultation with the immediate supervisor

  • Be able to determine the cause of the malnutrition in the emergency response and formulate appropriate responses. In addition, assess the immediate lifesaving nutrition interventions (such as CMAM, TSF) including prevention activities like ENA.

  • Assess training needs of staff and partner organizations and build their capacity

  • Organize and facilitate technical training on TSF (use of CSB/Famix) to FH/ORDA appropriate staff and district government health staff

  • Conducts regular monitoring of activities to ensure the effective implementation of the   Emergency health, nutrition and WASH program and prepare and submit monitoring reports. Follow up and make sure that recommendations are implemented accordingly.

  • Conduct nutrition surveys to measure changes/results

  • Ensure that reports are prepared to the required standards and submitted to the concerned bodies in a timely manner.

  • Actively represent FH/E in Emergency health, nutrition and WASH response network such as ENCU  , H&N taskforce and others.

  • Establish and maintain smooth-working relationships with appropriate governmental, non-Governmental and community-based organizations working in related field at district, zonal and regional and federal level.

  • Handle any other task given by the H&N Director and closely work with DRR team



Education-


  • Master’s degree or BSc. Degree in Nutrition or Public Health or related field

 Experience


  • Experience in implementing an/or managing emergency nutrition is required

  • Six Years of relevant experience in emergency health, nutrition and WASH programs out of which at least two years must be in management of similar programs preferably in NGO settings.

The position is required to continuously work with Emergency Response team and previous experience is an added value.


 Special Training-


  • Experience in nutrition assessment and technical training and support.

  • Skills in technical proposal writing, designing and implementing emergency health, nutrition and WASH programs

  • An up-to date understanding of health, nutrition and WASH, risk reduction, emergency response, and sustainable development concepts.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with other departments within FH/E, donors, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector.

  • Must have excellent English written and verbal communication skills.

Duration of Contract: One Year Renewable
