PROGRAM COORDINATOR(TEMPORARY) - University of Washington - Seattle, WA

The University of Washington (UW) is proud to be one of the nation’s premier educational and research institutions. Our people are the most important asset in our pursuit of achieving excellence in education, research, and community service. Our staff not only enjoys outstanding benefits and professional growth opportunities, but also an environment noted for diversity, community involvement, intellectual excitement, artistic pursuits, and natural beauty.

The Department of Global Health (UW-DGH) was established in 2007, bridging the schools of Medicine and Public Health, with a mandate to harness the expertise and interdisciplinary power of all UW schools and colleges. Driven by tremendous interest among both students and faculty, the Department has grown explosively to more than 400 graduate students and hundreds more undergraduates. We have more than 280 faculty and 1,000 staff working on projects across 93 countries with our deepest ties in Peru, Kenya, Uganda, and Ethiopia. The Department was made possible by generous support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and additional support from the University of Washington and state of Washington.

UW-DGH is working with global, regional and national partners in Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, China and the Middle East to conduct economic evaluation of the prevention and treatment of the most pressing conditions and diseases contributing to the global burden of disease through training workshops and collaborative research. Together, these components will provide the most comprehensive and up-to-date economic information to guide regional and national level policymaking, along with improved economic tools and more dispersed capacity for evidence-based priority-setting for health.

Disease Control Priorities Network (DCPN), funded in 2009 by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, is a seven year project managed by University of Washington’s Department of Global Health (UW-DGH) and the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME). UW-DGH leads and coordinates two key components to promote and support the use of economic evaluation for priority setting at both global and national levels. DCPN will provide the most up-to-date evidence on intervention efficacy and program effectiveness for the leading causes of global disease burden. It will go beyond previous efforts by providing systematic economic evaluation of policy choices affecting the access, update and quality of interventions and delivery platforms for low-and middle-income countries. It will introduce new extended cost-effectiveness analysis methods for assessing the equity and financial protection considerations of health and macroeconomic policies for extending coverage of proven effective interventions to prevent and treat infectious and chronic diseases, including conditions related to environmental health, trauma and mental disorders.
