Senior Agriculture and Market Development Experts (217280-927)


The positions are contingent upon calls for proposals from USAID anticipated over the next several months. This recruitment is intended to develop a pipeline of candidates for future programs.?

PROGRAM/DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:

GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:

Mercy Corps is seeking resumes from senior agriculture experts for anticipated, long-term opportunities implemented under the Feed the Future initiative in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

The potential positions include:

- Senior management and strategy positions such as Chief of Party
- Field-based technical advisory

The anticipated opportunities will focus on increasing agricultural (including livestock) productivity, agricultural market facilitation, value chain development, access to financial services, post-harvest handling and processing, regulatory and policy reform, and other activities that promote food security. Projects also will focus on building local and regional capacity to improve agricultural and pastoral livelihoods, address food production, agricultural marketing, and value chain and trade constraints to economic growth. Activities will integrate a gender focus to address the roles and inequities that women and minorities face regarding access, influence, and control over agricultural resources. Activities will also address environmental sustainability and community resiliency to the effects of climate change.

Organizational Learning: As part of Mercy Corps' agency-wide Organizational Learning Initiative, all team members are responsible for spending 5% of their work time in formal and/or non-formal professional learning activities.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

- M.S., M.B.A. or other post-graduate degree in agriculture related disciplines, agriculture/rural development studies, agricultural economics, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience managing or providing technical expertise in agriculture/microenterprise development/agricultural finance/livelihoods development.
- Preference given to candidates with at least 5 years of USAID project management experience.
- Previous Chief of Party/Deputy Chief of Party experience preferred.
- Excellent communication and reporting skills required.
- Fluency in English required (spoken and written).
- Regional experience and regional language fluency preferred.

ENVIRONMENTAL/LIVING CONDITIONS:

Potential position locations include Ethiopia, Guatemala, Haiti, Kenya, Liberia, Nepal, Tajikistan, Tanzania, and Uganda.

Mercy Corps Team members represent the agency both during and outside of work hours when deployed in a field posting or on a visit/TDY to a field posting. Staff are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner and respect local laws, customs and MC's policies, procedures, and values at all times and in all in-country venues.
