Title of Position: General Maintenance Clerk

Position Grade: G3/1 (UN salary scale for employees in Eth.)

Type of Appointment: SST, six months with possibility of extension

General functions: Under the overall supervision of the Head of Mission SLO Addis Ababa, the general supervision of the Head of Sub Office Jijiga, and the direct supervision of the IOM Jijiga Sub Office Admin/Finance Assistant Ill the incumbent’s responsibilities will include the following:

1. Manage maintenance activities related to sub-office compounds, storage sites and worksites in Jijiga as well as Kebribeyah, Aw Bare and Sheder Refugee Camps including electrical, plumbing and septic systems and all physical plant functionality;


2. Report regularly to IOM Jijiga Admin/Finance on the maintenance needs for each compound;


3. Undertake standard maintenance activities within incumbent’s professional capacity;


4. Assist RMU in monitoring sub-office furniture inventory and condition including furniture assembly and repair;


5. Coordinate necessary professional service provider maintenance activity closely with sub-office Resource Management Unit (RMU) and assist in monitoring maintenance activities and quality;


6. Assist RMU in the supervision of construction activities on sub-office compounds and worksites as needed;


7. Liaise with utility providers for monitoring service orders and the collection and payment of monthly invoices as assigned by RMU;


8. Provide assistance to RMU Procurement Assistant on collection of quotations as assigned;


9. Conduct daily checks of each IOM Jijiga compound and address any noted issues including functionality of the plumbing and septic system (toilets, showers, sinks, etc); electrical issues (replacement of light bulbs, non-functioning switches and outlets, etc); and monitoring of generator fuel levels and servicing schedule.


10. Monitor the reserve water-tank level, verify quantities of water supplied and monitor functionality of water pumps on each IOM Jijiga compound


11. Perform any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Desirable qualifications, experience and competencies:

• Secondary School Diploma


• Minimum of three years relevant experience in plumbing, maintenance, and electrical work.


• Grade 3 driver’s license is desirable.


• Experience with International Organizations is an advantage.


• Interpersonal and cross-cultural experience,


• Organised, resourceful, punctual, efficient, flexible, drive for results,


• Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues from varied cultural and professional backgrounds

Language: Good knowledge of spoken and written English language as well as spoken Somali & Amharic language is required. Knowledge of additional local languages is an advantage
