Summary Scope of Work:

The Continuing Medical Education Project Manager provides managerial oversight and technical input for the Continuing Medical Education (CME) project and ensures coordination with partners. She/he will ensure timely and cost-effective project implementation, activity reporting and be responsible for all project deliverables. The Project Manager will maintain relationships with the Ministries of Health and Education (MOH/MOE), local partners, stakeholders and the donor, CDC.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide leadership and direction to ensure the project’s programmatic and strategic integrity;

• Oversee operational aspects of project, including budget management and supervision of staff assigned to the project;

• Coordinate and assist in conducting all activities including training and meetings.

• Provide key technical input to the project to ensure the project meets donor targets. Provide regular feedback to the Technical Director and the Management Team;

• Be responsive to and responsible for the relationship with the MOH/ MOE, and CDC for the project;

• Cultivate strategic relationships/alliances with other PEPFAR partners and other related partners including attending relevant donor and partner meetings;

• Establish and provide strategic guidance to the National CME Task Force and sport the task force to be led and imbedded within national institutions.

• Provide regular feedback to the task force and donor of project successes, challenges and lessons learned;

• Lead the annual work planning process in collaboration with CDC;

• Provide written reports and project updates as required per the award contract; Provide ad hoc reports to the donor as requested.

• Liaise with Jhpiego technical experts and seek their inputs as required;

• Manage information dissemination among the project team and provide feedback to other technical staff of the Ethiopia country program;

• Write/co-author documentation of project results in peer-reviewed journals and publications and conferences;

• Represent Jhpiego nationally, regionally or globally by participating and presenting in pertinent meetings and conferences.

• Adhere to Jhpiego and Johns Hopkins field office procedures and file financial records, timesheets and other support documentation to the Ethiopia Country office in Addis Ababa as required in a timely manner.

Required Qualifications

• Graduate degree in Public Health, Medicine or related field;

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in program design and implementation, preferably in medical education, and in managing complex projects in Ethiopia;

• Demonstrated experience in managing and working on US Government funded programs in Ethiopia, particularly PEPFAR funded programs;

• Team player accustomed to building local capacity, delegating working teams and developing communities of learning;

• Language Requirement: Proficiency in speaking, writing and reading English and Amharic

• Computer literacy (Microsoft Office), Internet.

Abilities/Skills

• Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills. Ability to communicate professionally especially with persons of authority and partner organizations;

• Strong management, facilitation and team building skills;

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Ethiopian and international staff and partners;

• Willingness to travel within Ethiopia as the project demands (40-50%);
