HelpAge International helps older people claim their rights, challenge discrimination and overcome poverty, so that they can lead dignified, secure, active and healthy lives. Our work in over 75 countries is strengthened through our global network of like-minded organisations – the only one of its kind in the world. HelpAge International has been funding projects in Ethiopia since the early 1980s, initially as an emergency response. The country office opened in 1992 with the aim of encouraging more development work, focusing more directly on older people and working with specialist organisations for older people.
This is an exciting opportunity to be responsible for leading on the development, management and administration of HelpAge International's programmes in Ethiopia and promoting the development of a national capacity to meet the needs of older people. You will provide overall supervision to the emergency relief and rehabilitation programme including setting strategic direction, ensuring high quality programming and liaison with donors as well as finalise and lead on the implementation of a three year strategic plan, annual operational plans and budgets including humanitarian and development work.
The ideal candidate will substantial experience of programme management in humanitarian and development context, including resource, financial, HR and information management as well as direct experience of project appraisal, assessment, monitoring and evaluation methodologies. Demonstrated experience in preparing funding proposals and reports for a range of donors is also essential for this role. You will also have the commitment and ability to foster and support capacity building own staff and of national partners, including experience of managing teams of international and national staff, across different sites.
