POSITION TITLE: Value Chain Advisor
LOCATION: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
UNIT: Enterprise and Agriculture
REPORTS TO: Chief of Party

PROGRAM SUMMARY:

Winrock is seeking candidates for a Value Chain Advisor to manage activities related to conducting value chain assessments in the livestock sector as well as designing and implementing interventions in selected livestock value chains for a USAID-funded livestock sector development program in Ethiopia. The program will foster growth and competitiveness of selected livestock value chains to the benefit of smallholders; address the needs of the chronically vulnerable through livestock related nutrition-based interventions; and ensure appropriate policies and continuous learning are established.

Position is contingent upon receipt of donor funding.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review existing livestock related value chain studies and interventions undertaken to date.
- Recommend and complete additional value chain studies as needed.
- From these studies, develop a strategy for value chain development, particularly in dairy and live animals/meat value chains. This may include identifying key weaknesses and designing appropriate interventions that will strengthen selected value chains that will benefit smallholders through increased productivity and incomes and improved nutrition.
- Interact with agribusiness, service providers, and livestock-related government technical officials to ensure sharing of information and building partnerships.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist in the preparation of periodical reports as required under the contract. Represent the project at meetings and events as required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND BACKGROUND:

Education: Advanced degree in livestock, agriculture, agribusiness, agricultural economics, or related field is required.

Work Experience:
- Minimum 10 years of experience in livestock sector value chain development, with emphasis on value chain facilitation, agribusiness, marketing, financial services, and private sector development.
- Minimum 5 years of experience managing for-profit agribusiness or value chain related private sector institution.

Skills:
- Established relationship with and/or substantive knowledge of international agribusiness firms.
- Substantive knowledge of agribusiness and agriculture service providers in the Ethiopian livestock sector.
- Excellent management, communication, and organization skills are required.
- Advanced ICT skills are required.
- Experience with gender mainstreaming in livestock/agriculture programs would be a plus.
