Gender Advisor, LGP


POSITION TITLE: Gender Advisor
LOCATION: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
UNIT: Enterprise and Agriculture
REPORTS TO: Chief of Party

PROGRAM SUMMARY:

Winrock is seeking candidates to provide technical leadership for gender issues as a means of enhancement for rural women’s access economic resources related to livestock in Ethiopia. The project will foster growth and competitiveness of selected livestock value chains to the benefit of smallholders; address the needs of the chronically vulnerable through livestock related nutrition-based interventions; and ensure appropriate policies and continuous learning are established.

Position is contingent upon receipt of donor funding.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Under direction of the COP, provide overall technical leadership to achieve results and impacts on women famers.
- Conduct a gender analysis related to program activities.
- Address gender disparity and promote gender equity by developing specific strategies to target women and men, including public outreach and facilitated interventions.
- Conduct gender and nutrition monitoring and standardize gender sensitive interventions.
- Monitor component indicators, evaluate results, and make recommendations for improvement in component implementation.
- Analyze project impact and challenges to adaptively manage to meet or exceed results.
- Ensure that gender is integrated and aligned with overall project activities and oriented towards reaching project objectives.
- Establish contacts with partners and clients to ensure coordinated implementation of project activities.
- Interact directly and on a regular basis with field-based staff and other stakeholders.
- Participate in regular field visits to the project areas to assure project progress towards activity objectives and goals.
- Coordinate activities with complementary USAID and/or donor projects.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Represent Winrock at meetings and events as required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND BACKGROUND:

Education: Masters Degree in International Development, Gender/Women’s Studies, Sociology, Anthropology, Agriculture, Nutrition, or other related field.

Work Experience:
- Minimum 5-10 years of experience working on complex economic development programs required, preferably in the Horn of Africa.
- Five to ten years or more of progressive engagement with NGOs and/or host governments on gender issues.
- Prior experience designing and integrating gender sensitivity into program design and monitoring and evaluation efforts.
- Prior experience on livestock or agricultural development programs targeting women farmers.
- Management experience and knowledge of project management in a field-based setting.

Skills:
- Technical understanding of economic development, agriculture and/or food security, nutrition, gender and social inclusion issues, and micro-enterprise development.
- Must demonstrate experience/knowledge of gender issues relevant to livestock production.
- Ability to build coalitions and networks that can provide synergies and sustainable solutions to rural economic development.
- Excellent management, communication, and organization skills are required.
- Excellent computer skills (word-processing, spreadsheets, and databases) are required.
- Monitoring and evaluation experience also preferred.
