Ethiopia: MdM Seeks a MEDICAL PROJECT OFFICER - ETHIOPIA

For more than 30 years, Médecins du Monde, a campaigning medical organisation committed to international solidarity, has been caring for the most vulnerable populations at home and abroad. It has continued to highlight obstacles that exist in accessing health care and has secured sustainable improvements in health-for-all policies. Those working for this independent organisation do not solely dispense care and treatment but condemn violations of human dignity and rights and fight to improve matters for populations living in precarious situations.

MdM currently works in 46 countries across all continents where it focuses on 4 priority areas: caring for the health of migrants and displaced persons, promoting sexual and reproductive health, combating HIV and reducing the harm and risks associated with drug use, crises and conflicts.

Since January 2014, MdM has started a 3 years project, under the title: “Preventing genital mutilation and its harmful consequences for 6,900 newborn girls and 46,600 women of childbearing age in Ethiopia” in Afar region – zone 5- with Afar local implementing partner: ACISDA (Afar Community Initiative Sustainable Development Association).

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Medical Project Officer will work under the direct responsibility of the General Coordinator.

She/he is based in Dawe and in ACISDA office and one week/month is in Addis Ababa office.

The Medical Project Officer has a very important role as a MdM representative and interlocutor between MdM, the local partner (ACISDA Afar Community Initiative Sustainable Development Association), the local government regulatory agencies and local NGO.

The Medical Project Officer will have to:

Coordinate and monitor the project activities through the local partner NGO: ACISDAProvide technical support in FGM (Female Genital Mutilation) prevention, especially for training of the health extension workers and mide wife (safe de infibulation / FGM complications and risks…)Ensure the implementation of the logical framework of the projectEnsure the implementation of the MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) signed between ACISDA and MdMDevelop and maintain good relations with government officials and regulatory bodies in order to facilitate the work of MdMDevelop and maintain good relations with NGO, UN and others organizationsCollect information about context and security situations and report to the general coordinatorWill participate with the administrator and logisitcian based in Addis Ababa to financial and logistic tasks.
