Communications Specialist - Johns Hopkins University - Baltimore, MD

Performance Monitoring and Accountability 2020 (PMA2020) is a five-year project funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation that is designed to facilitate annual progress reporting in support of the goals and principles of FP2020. The project will support low-cost, rapid-turnaround household and facility surveys to routinely update national indicators on family planning and water and sanitation in 10 countries in Asia and Africa. Year 1 Countries: Ghana, Ethiopia, Uganda, Kenya, and DR Congo (Kinshasa Only) Year 2 Countries: Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Indonesia, Niger and India (UP and Bihar) The project is implemented by in-country university and research organizations, deploying a cadre of female resident enumerators trained in mobile-assisted data collection. PMA2020 establishes a sentinel data collection platform that transforms the way health survey data is collected -- a platform that may be utilized for monitoring a range of health program areas in future modules. PMA2020 seeks a Communications Specialist who will be responsible for supporting PMA2020 data dissemination activities with a communication plan throughout the five-year project. The Communications Specialist will serve as the primary communications liaison with overseas partner organizations and will be expected to develop effective relationships with project partners to maximize implementation and impact of communication materials as part of dissemination efforts. The Specialist will coordinate international communications outreach and other communications activities. The Communications Specialist will write original content to effectively communicate results of project to a wider audience. Perform writing and editing as needed; work in conjunction with country program lead and other project team members in the development and implementation of dissemination strategies with communications components; and collaborate with Advance Family Planning, their in-country networks, and other national and international advocacy organizations to promote PMA2020 data utilization in their advocacy efforts, particularly in support of FP2020 goals. This position will include Francophone Africa in its portfolio and therefore program experience within the region, as well as strong French language skills is highly desirable. In collaboration with project country leads and the Project Director, coordinate the release and dissemination of PMA2020 reports and other materials via the Web and in a wide range of developing countries. Serve as the primary liaison with PMA2020's overseas partners and international organizations regarding communications efforts. Work as member of project team in developing projects that include communications activities. Identify and coordinate participation by PMA2020 staff and partners in key meetings and conferences. Ordinate communications activities outlined in partner scopes of work, including schedules of deliverables. Develop blogs, public education and relations materials, website and list serv content. Work with advocacy partners to develop policy and research briefs. Ensure that all materials are updated as needed. Use graphic design software and other electronic presentation tools to develop infographics and presentations for PMA2020 staff and partners and website posting. Coordinate outreach to partners and development of materials with the Project Director for marketing both the data produced and the data collection platform. Represent PMA2020 at external meetings. Represent PMA2020 on the Gates Institute communications sub-committee. Other tasks as assigned by the PMA2020 Program Manager or Project Director.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in related field. Two years related experience. Ability to understand statistical materials. Extensive travel internationally may be required. Strong computer skills. Experience managing comparable activities for an international program/project. Strong organizational skills and ability to work under deadlines, juggling multiple priorities and projects. Ability to work effectively with overseas partners, often on a long-distance basis. Advanced degree may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula. JHU Equivalency Formula : 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
