Communications Advisor


Applicants: national and international


Job Purpose:


Working within a focused, motivated team based in Addis Ababa, the Communications Advisor will work closely with the Senior Management team andnProject Coordinators to provide editorial, strategic, creative and operational communications support across our work. He or she will play a key role in ensuring our communications are both influential and informative for the full range of our stakeholders. The role also requires close support of the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer to manage new and existing relationships with donors, and assisting to compile, edit and proofread reports to donors.


Key Responsibilities:


Communications


  • Help maintain and build the reputation of Hope for Children Organisation, both within Ethiopia and in Australia;

  • Maintaining accurate database records for both The School of St Yared (SSY) and the Child, Youth and Community (CYC) programs in respect to ongoing transparent communication with Head Office, and sponsors;

  • Coordinate and oversee letter writing to sponsors, and spot check letters to ensure consistent quality;

  • Compile and update profiles for beneficiaries in SSY and CYC programs when required throughout the year;

  • Provide timely pictures for sponsors and donors;

  • Manage, update and write content for website;

  • Manage social media channels including Facebook, Instagram and YouTube with topical and frequent content;

  • Compile and circulate electronic weekly update to all staff;

  • Compile and send quarterly organisational newsletter; and

Desirable: plan and create multimedia communications materials


Donor Relations


  • Support Monitoring and Evaluation Officer to compile the annual report and donor reports to individual and institutional donors

  • Working closely with the Head of Administration and Finance, the HFC Project Director and the respective Project Coordinators to strengthen the relations between HFC and donors in the areas of:
    • Timely donor reporting; and

    • Donor monitoring and evaluation


  • To assist, strengthen and support organisational communication between potential new and existing donors and partners, the Australia Head Office, Ethiopian Headquarters and international donors;

  • To perform any other duties as requested by Manager/Founder



Skills and Experience:


  • Excellent written English skills, able to write in a friendly, informal, warm and engaging house style

  • Excellent communication skills in professional and international settings

  • Demonstrated ability to write, edit and proofread written and online communications materials

  • Good understanding of Word, PowerPoint and Mailchimp and Pages desirable

  • Knowledge of online communications, social media and basic photography skills

  • Self-motivated, team player with proven ability to contribute to organizational success.

  • First rate written and verbal communication skills, expertise in written and spoken English mandatory

  • Outstanding organizational, time management, and computer skills.

  • Outstanding attention to detail

  • Energetic, consistent and dedicated personality

  • Highly organized and detail orientated

  • Flexible and a self starter

Qualifications:


  • Minimum Bachelor degree in English, language, communications, public relations, journalism, international relations, media relations, or equivalent.

  • 2 years work experience in relevant field

  • Desirable: experience working and communicating with donors, international businesses, non-profit organisations
