Its Headquarters is located in Addis Ababa, capital city of Ethiopia. In seeking to achieve these objectives, the African Union intends to strengthen its capacity to deliver by, among others, the implementation of new organization structure and the filling of vacant posts. The Commission of the African Union invites applicants who are citizens of Member States for the post of Policy Officer – Economist. 1. Post: Job Title: Grade: Supervisor: Duty Station: Policy Officer – Economist P2 Senior Statistician Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

2. Major Duties and Responsibilities: Under the general guidance of the Head of Statistics Division and the direct supervision of the Senior Statistician, he/she will: ï‚· Collect, compile, analyze and process monetary, financial and balance of payments statistics at regional and continental level; ï‚· Collect, compile, analyze and aggregate statistical data to monitor economic convergence; ï‚· Carry out the aggregation of monetary, financial and balance of payments statistics at regional and continental level; ï‚· Produce the continental Flow-of-Funds Financial Table; ï‚· Compile and aggregate national accounts with a view to the production of continental accounts; ï‚· Produce macroeconomic and sectoral indicators for the monitoring of the economic integration process; ï‚· Contribute to the elaboration of Economic Report on Africa, Assessing the Regional Integration Process, etc; ï‚· Promote sub-regional collaboration on data collection and exchange; ï‚· Manage, update and revise the AfricaInfo database; ï‚· Undertake any other duties as assigned. 1

3. Qualifications and Experience Required: The candidate of this post: ï‚· should hold a Bachelors University Degree in Statistics with at least five (5) years relevant work experience; or Masters degree with 3 years relevant work experience;

4. Professional experience required: ï‚· ï‚· Should be familiar with problems related to the development of statistics in Africa; Should have relevant work experience in these fields as well as in qualitative and quantitative research methods;

5. Other Relevant Skills: ï‚· ï‚· Should be able to work in multicultural setting, in good team spirit; Must be computer literate, and be familiar with statistical, econometric and database development software packages such as ACCESS, SAS, DevInfo, EpiInfo, SPSS, STATA and E-views etc.

6. Language Requirement: Proficiency in one of the African Union working languages. Proficiency of one or several other working language(s) would be an added advantage. 7. Age Requirement: Candidates must preferably be between 30 and 45 years old.

8. Tenure of Appointment: The appointment will be made on fixed term contract for a period of three (3) years, of which the first twelve months be consider as a probationary period. Thereafter, the contract will be for a period of two years renewable, subject to satisfactory performance and deliverables. 9. 10. Remuneration: Indicative basic salary US$ 27,892.00 per annum plus other related entitlements e.g. post adjustment (46% of basic salary), housing allowance (US$14,414.40 per annum), education allowance (75% of tuition and other related expenses for every eligible dependent up to a maximum of US$7,800.00 per child per annum), etc. for internationally recruited staff of the Commission.
