Within the delegated authority, the Director, ACS will lead the African Centre for Statistics, plan and develop the statistical database for the use of the Commission, members States,
regional organizations and other bodies; formulate the objectives and define the desired
outcomes of the subprogramme; and provide support and advise on statistical matters. Conducts research on statistical concepts, methods and standards with the view to supporting member States in the production and use of quality statistics in support of development efforts. Promotes the harmonization of statistics across African countries through the adoption of international statistical norms, standards and classifications and adaptation to regional and national realities.- Assists member States in conducting various statistical operations namely censuses, surveys and administrative data records keeping.
Designs and implements regional programmes that are well coordinated across African countries with the view to producing and using quality statistical information to support issue recognition and definition, policy design and choice, analysis, planning as well as monitoring and evaluation of development efforts
Develops and maintains a regional repository of statistical information in support of the Commission's analytical and research work and to serve as a regional service centre for data on economic, social, demographic, and environmental conditions on African countries
Supports member States in harnessing information communication technologies including Geoinformation Systems to improve data collection, processing, analysis, dissemination and archiving capabilities, as well as facilitating access to national, sub-regional and regional databases.
Provides advisory services to member States in establishing efficient statistical infrastructure for the collection, processing, analysis, dissemination and archiving of statistics in various areas.- Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Secretary.
