System Administrator / IT Teacher

SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is a national member association to the International Federation of SOS Children’s Villages. It is non- political, not-for-profit, and non-religious social development organization focused on the wellbeing and development of children. It was founded in 1974 and has been a development partner since then with positive outcomes in the lives of many children, families and communities.


The SOS Children’s Villages Program Hawassa is looking for competent and able System Administrator / IT Teacher that meets the requirements stated bellow.


Position summary


The System Administrator / IT Teacher is responsible for providing an educational atmosphere where students have the opportunity to fulfil their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, spiritual and psychological growth. This person is responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program that will result in students achieving academic success in accordance with academic policies of SOS Hermann Gmeiner Schools. The teacher also follows up the day today network activity, hardware and software failure maintenance, do network and system maintenance, and provide IT support to co-workers working in program location.


Duties & Responsibilities – As a Teacher


· Implements instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.


· Identifies, selects, and modifies instructional resources to meet the needs of the students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.


· Assists in assessing changing curricular needs and offers plans for improvement.


· Maintains effective and efficient record keeping procedures.


·   Provides a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.


· Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, heads of departments, academic director, principal and other professionals in the schools on a regular basis.


· Collaborates with peers to enhance the instructional environment.


· Models professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community.


· Ensures that student growth and achievement is continuous and appropriate for age group, subject area, and/or program classification.


· Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and schools, as measured by standards of SOS Hermann Gmeiner Schools


· Assumes responsibility for meeting his/her assigned subject of teaching and school-wide student performance goals.


· Demonstrates gains in student performance.


· Participates in training and presentations about the particular subject of his/her specialty


· Meets professional obligations through efficient work habits such as: meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating.


·   Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the department head, or the lead teacher, or the academic director, or the school principal


Duties and Responsibilities: As ICT Technician


·         To provide first line support on all general and specific software and hardware issues.


·         Create new network user accounts, alter user system details and remove past user accounts


·         To provide training to project staff on the use of ICT related tools & techniques


·         To ensure that confidentiality and data protection requirements are maintained and adhered to.


·         Assist in LAN and WAN administration.


·          Installs and upgrades computer hardware and software.


·         Provides helpdesk assistance, evaluating problems and resolving issues by telephone and in person.


·         Quickly arrange and repair hardware in occasion of hardware failure


·         Constantly monitor system (servers) performance


·         Create file systems and logs


·         Ensure backups run regularly and accurately


·         Monitor network communication


·         Any ICT duty assigned by the NITC




Competencies and Education Requirements


 


·        Education             :    BA / BSc / BED degree


·        Training                :    Computer training especially on using networking, etc


·        Experience            :       At least 4 years teaching experience


 


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


·   Language Skills-Ability to read, analyzes, and interpret general professional communications, professional journals, research reports, technical procedures, school policies and regulations, and governmental regulations and policies. Ability to write reports, professional correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from stakeholders, colleagues, head of department, lead teacher, academic director, an school principal


·   Mathematical Skills– Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.


·    Reasoning Ability-Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


·   Computer Skills-Familiarity with basic computer operation and software.  Ability to learn various computer operations required for management of student information and integration of technology in classroom instruction.


·   Physical Demands-While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required to walk.


·   Other-Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students peers and parents, skill in oral and written communication.
