PSI/Ethiopia, an affiliate of Population Services International, has developed national results-based programs in HIV prevention, reproductive health and child survival. Through evidence-based social marketing and health communications, PSI/Ethiopia strengthens public and private sector partners to help Ethiopia’s most vulnerable people to lead healthier lives. 

 

Currently PSI/Ethiopia would like to enrich a pool of candidates for Translator/Editor from Amharic to English and vice-versa.

JOB SUMMARY

The Translator/Editor will be given tasks on a call-basis and be responsible for the translation and edition of health communication materials from Amharic to English and vice-versa. This role often involves working with the PSI team with intensive day-to-day interaction. The Translator/Editor must be able to have hands-on experience in developing communication materials and must have knowledge of behavioral interventions with in-depth understanding of the context and major health or development interventions in the country.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Read source documents critically and clearly understand the intention and context of the material to be translated/edited,


• Work closely with the program focal person to ascertain work is on the right track,


• Translate/edit the source material in a way that can easily be understood by the intended audience,


• Submit neatly crafted document in soft-copy with editable version.


• Make corrections as per the feedback given by the program focal person and the Health Communications Specialist.


• When necessary, attend on consultative meetings on the contents embodied in the material.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s/ Master’s degree in English /Amharic Language/Literatures/ Communications/ Journalism or related fields.


• Minimum of 6/8 years direct experience in translating/editing health related materials.


• Knowledge of the country context on HIV behavioral intervention is necessary.

PREFERRED Qualifications/Abilities

• Ability to work independently while being a strong team player,


• Ability to communicate and make rational decisions,


• Ability to perform multiple tasks and adhere to deadlines,


• Fluent in English and Amharic and


• Very good command on Microsoft Office.
