Ethiopia: Gender Advisor, Development Food Assistance Program (DFAP), Ethiopia - Ethiopia

Save the Children is the leading independent organization for children in need, with programs in over 120 countries, including the United States. We aim to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children, and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives by improving their health, education and economic opportunities. In times of acute crisis, we mobilize rapid assistance to help children recover from the effects of war, conflict and natural disasters. Each year, we and our partners reach millions of children in communities around the world. Join our dedicated and diverse staff in their work to improve the well-being of children everywhere.

We are currently recruiting for a Gender Advisor who will ensure a gendered approach throughout the Development Food Assistance Program (DFAP) assessments, planning and implementation that takes into account the differences in men’s, women’s, boys’, and girls’ roles in the community context, as well as the intergenerational and gendered inequalities that exist within a household. The Gender Advisor will work closely with the DFAP team in Ethiopia, the government, local authorities, and other key stakeholders to address gender-related differences, needs and inequalities, and ensure a direct, comprehensive approach to dealing with them in the DFAP programming and in accordance with the Gender Core Competencies.

Among other gender-related objectives, the Gender Advisor will be responsible for ensuring and/or promoting in the DFAP activities the equitable participation by men, women, boys and girls and the reduction of gender inequalities to achieve nutritional outcomes and strengthen resilience to food insecurity. The Gender Advisor will ensure that USAID’s Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Policy, Food for Peace gender guidance, ADS 205, and other relevant gender principles, policies and regulations will be applied consistently throughout the DFAP initiative. The Gender Advisor will also advise and ensure that gender-based violence (GBV) and female empowerment will be addressed in the DFAP activities.
