Job Description

The positions:  The International Centre of Insect Physiology & Ecology (ICIPE)) seeks to hire four Technical Assistants who will be based in East Gojjam, West Gojjam and Gamo Gofa Zones.

General: International Centre of Insect Physiology & Ecology (ICIPE)—African Insect Science for Food and Health is a world-class research centre with a mission to alleviate poverty by ensuring food security, improving health, protecting the environment and building the capacity of researchers and communities across the developing world, through the application of insect sciences. Main Responsibilities:

• Liaises with research officers/scientists about the work requirement of the program;

• Assists in beekeeping and silkworm rearing;


• Assists in data collection and information dissemination under the supervision of the program manager;


• Assists in establishing silk and honey value chains and training centres;

• Assists in training farmers and extension agents on silk worm rearing techniques; assembling bee hives and opening and examining colonies;


• Carries out a range of technical tasks as well as specialized duties as given by the program manager.

Minimum Requirements:

Education:

•  Diploma in Agriculture from a recognized college.

Experience:

• At least 2 years of experience in a relevant field.

Skills:

• Good working knowledge of written and spoken English essential


• Willingness to work after office hours and/or holidays if required


• Ability to work under pressure


• Good inter-personal relationship


• Ability to ride a motorbike

Duty Station:   East Gojjam, West Gojjam and Gamo Gofa Zones

Position level:   1C.

Minimum Base salary:

• Birr 6,529 per month (Negotiable depending on experience, skill and salary history of the candidate)
