Job Title: Laboratory expert

Number of Positions: 2

Period of Employment: 1 year with possible extension

Duty Station: Chagni Health Center, Awi Zone, Amhara Region  

Line Manager: Director, MLDM Project

Project Objective

The overall project goal is to conduct a clinical trial towards improving the radical cure of vivax malaria in the country and inform policy decision making

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

·   Collect blood samples from consented patients according to the SOPs

·   Perform Malaria microscopy diagnosis and parasite quantification according to the SOPs

·   Perform G6PD testing

·   Perform dried blood spot (DBS) sampling as defined in the study protocol

·   Determine the hemoglobin level of the patient according to the SOPs

·   Perform pregnancy test for eligible patients according to the SOP

·   Preserve the slides of the study patients separately and in a proper way

·   Link the patient to the respective health care provider for Medical management

·   Document the laboratory result in the laboratory request form and study laboratory log book. 

·   Compile and report daily information to the study coordinator and or assigned study

·   Willingness to work on weekends and holidays

 

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

·         BSc in Medical Laboratory Technology with at least three years of experience in clinical practice

·         Experience in related research activities

·         Experience of working in malarious areas

·         In service training on malaria laboratory diagnosis is an advantage

·         Ability to work in team with good team spirit

·         Computer skills (Windows, Word, Power point, Spread sheet, etc)

·         Knowledge on the language of Agowugna is an advantage
