JOB SUMMARY
The Teacher Training Program Specialist is responsible for planning, conducting and managing training programs for the READ project (Teacher professional development and teacher support system). She supervises and monitors all training activities in each target regions in consultation with Teacher Training Manager. S/he will work in close collaboration with the project’s technical staff: master trainers, regional teacher training Coordinators, RTI staffs. S/he will also be responsible for developing and following up on learning materials and tools in addition to enriching the existing teaching materials to improve The Teacher education program in reading proficiency and comprehension.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
Planning, conducting and managing training programs for the READ project,
assess current teaching methods, learning culture, and practice Identify promising practices and new teaching and learning methods appropriate to new curricula Identifying training needs and develop reading and writing instructional approach that will guide the syllabi revision and curriculum development in collaboration with Home office technical manager, SIL, and FSU gather input on teacher training materials design and develop manuals for training Master and Teacher trainers to be able to train teachers together with READ technical staff Participate in developing and following up on learning materials and tools in addition to enriching the existing teaching materials to improve reading proficiency and comprehension. coordinate and conduct training for Master Trainers and teacher trainers in collaboration with trainers from Colleges of Teacher Education, High School Teachers and RTI staffs Developing and following up on learning materials and tools in addition to enriching the existing teaching materials to improve reading proficiency and comprehension. Coordinate and ensure the delivery of training sessions and workshops along with the content and the selected methodologies in all target regions. Support RSEBs in developing a detailed teacher training and support plan Assess current teacher training and support systems at national level including resources, tools and techniques available Support the development of classroom monitoring and observation tools and training module for Master training guidelines Develop classroom monitoring and observation tools and training module for Master training guidelines Utilize innovative approaches to support the RSEBs to institute a systemic change to improve reading and writing teacher training and support systems. Support RSEBs to identify and utilize their current capacity to support training, dissemination and monitoring /supervision
Monitoring, evaluation and quality assurance
Conduct regular supervision, monitoring and evaluates training activities for their effectiveness and takes necessary measures to rectify any weaknesses and short comings. Systematically document project results jointly with partners and manage knowledge and experiences from the learning process and replicate good practices, Regularly follow-up and supervise all training activities in each target regions to ensure proper and efficient implementation as per the direction provided by the Teacher Training Manager Prepare and compile quarterly and annual reports for education programmes based on donors and partners requirement

Partner management and capacity building
Work closely with partner organizations in the course of project planning, implementation of project activities, preparation of project implementation plans and action plans, preparation of periodic and project completion reports, preparation of annual and quarterly project budgets, project budget revision, and the like Maintain regular communication and interaction with partners (mainly RTI) to facilitate and promote learning and information sharing between SC and partner organizations Provides technical support to partners in the course of project implementation. Work strategically with partners in networking and reviewing education project implementation by exchange visit and sharing experiences in the field
Documentation, Learning and Advocacy
Prepare quarterly, biannual and annual reports, Ensures proper documentation of experiences and lessons (including pictures and video documentation) learned in the course of project implementation Organizes and properly maintains database and information related to the project. Facilitate and participate in studies and reviews related to the project Facilitate and ensure dissemination of information and study/reviews Provides information/inputs to be used for SC information and communication.
Collaboration and Networking
Facilitates and enhances SC’s active involvement in networks and forums. Facilitates the establishment of links and good relationships with partner authorities. Work in close collaboration with the project’s technical staff and master trainers, and team up in the delivery of trainings and make sure the technical inputs of all responsible technical staff are integrated into the training plan of the project. Work in close coordination with Regional Teacher Training Coordinators to plan the training programs, logistics and all activities related to training and management. work closely with Save the children technical and project staff and RTI
Job Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
MA/Bachelor degree in an area of education preferably in curriculum & Instruction or language subject areas or equivalent Recommended a minimum of 6 years’ experience in a corporate or NGO environment, preferably with experience on literacy (read and write) or primary education projects Recommended a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a teacher training college or university Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures Strong results orientation, with the ability to challenge existing mind sets Experience of working successfully with senior managers in other parts of own organization or partner organizations to deliver major change Experience of successfully implementing changes to processes to improve and monitor quality standards and impact achieved Experience of managing and shaping programmes to deliver greater efficiency and effectiveness, and of strengthening implementation of financial control processes Solid budgeting skills and knowledge of key donor regulations Experience of solving complex issues through analysis, definition of a clear way forward and ensuring buy in Ability to present complex information in a succinct and compelling manner Ability and willingness to dramatically change work practices and hours, and work with incoming surge teams, in the event of emergencies Fluency in English, both verbal and written, required, and fluency in local (Ethiopian) languages Commitment to Save the Children values
