Translation of Demand Creation Strategy for MNCH and CBNC
Supportive Supervision Guides
(English to Amharic, Afan Oromo and Tigrigna)
BACKGROUND OF THE PROJECT/PROGRAM

Save the Children, in collaboration with Federal Ministry of Health and other partners, is implementing different maternal, newborn, child health (MNCH) projects in different parts of the country. One of the key challenges in the process of implementing these projects is low care seeking behavior for MNCH services. To address this challenge, Save the Children developed a comprehensive Demand Creation Strategy for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health & Community Based Newborn Care (MNCH and CBNC). The demand creation strategy is based on local experiences that are proven feasible, effective, and scalable and it fits into the existing government’s platform. The demand Creation Strategy for MCNH and CBNC includes training guides, supportive supervision guides and tools that facilitate implementation of the demand creation interventions.
Given the geographic scope of the implementation areas, Save the Children is seeking an experienced and competent professional individual/s that would be able to translate Demand Creation Strategy for MNCH and CBNC Supportive Supervision Guides from English to local languages.
The material will be translated from English to: Amharic, Afan Oromo and Tigrigna languages, within two weeks after signing the agreement. The English version of the document to be translated is 148 pages at 12 font size and 1.5 line spaces. The successful translator should be based in Ethiopia and be able provide the translation services for one or more of the services mentioned above.
The translator must provide samples of previous work, preferably translating materials and documents related to public health, communication and community mobilization from the English language into Amharic, Afan Oromo and Tigrigna languages demonstrating expertise in the areas cited below, and must be available to work within a short time frame.
TASKS
The selected candidate will be tasked with the following:
· Translation of Demand Creation Strategy for MNCH and CBNC Supportive Supervision Guides – requires ability to comprehend technical community development and public health terminologies.
· Knowledge of local community structures,
· Usage of official language and not the use of dialects is a must.
· Accuracy in translating ideas and concepts in simple language that can be clearly understood by the health extension workers and other health professionals.
SCOPE OF WORK
The Consultant/Translator will conduct the following tasks:
• Attend a technical brief on the documents before commencing translation work
• Translate the English Documents into Amharic, Afan Oromo and Tigregna
• Compare the English version with Amharic, Afan Oromo and Tigregna and the local language versions among themselves to ensure consistency.
• Translate any new upcoming additions /changes included into the English version.
• Compare the local language versions with The “Demand Creation Strategy for MNCH and CBNC” document that is already translated into the same three languages versions for consistency.
• Accommodate comments from appropriate Save the Children Team
REQUIRED QUALFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
· Education: Bachelor degree in language studies, literature, communication or a related field;
· Resume/CV: Including information describing previous relevant work experience
· Experience: Must be fluent in English, Amharic and Afan Oromo /Tigrigna; proficient and familiar with technical terminologies in the fields of communication, community mobilization, MNCH, development and public health.
· References: Names and contact information of a minimum of three previous clients separately for Amharic, Oromiffa and Tigrigna translation services

From the TOR; applicants can get full information on what to incorporate in the proposal.
Interested applicants should submit two separate sealed documents in which one document should include the technical proposal including curriculum vitae of the proposed professional(s) with supporting document that shows previous work experience. The second document should include professional fee on the bases of daily rates, VAT and per diem costs, as well as transport costs separately for the stated work along with copy of renewed Consultancy License to Save the Children Ethiopia Country Office in Addis Ababa, situated around Bisrate Gabriel Church, Dire Complex Building, before June 22, 2015 at 4:30 P.M in person.
