Job Description


John Snow, Inc. (JSI), established in 1978, is committed to improving the health of individuals and communities worldwide.

Integrated Family Health program (IFHP)


The Integrated Family Health Program (IFHP) is a USAID-funded health program implemented by Pathfinder International (PI) and John Snow Incorporated (JSI) in partnership with Ministry of Health and other local partners.


The program focuses on increasing the use of high impact FP and MNCH practices, products and services.


JSI/IFHP has vacancies as data collector and supervisors for an operational research to be done in maternal health.


Objectives of the Research:



  • Evaluate the newer BEmONC training approach in terms of knowledge, attitude and skills in BEmONC signal functions

  • Compare HCWs trained using the newer approach with the conventional BEmONC trained HCWs in terms of Knowledge, attitude and skills.

  • Assess the perception HCWs to the training approach and training related issues

  • Determine knowledge and skill retention among trained health care workers after 9 months of training.

1. Research Assistants (Data collectors)

Duty station: South Gondar in Amhara and Sidama in SNNP regions.


Duration of assignment: Minimum of 10 days


Number: 10 (4 for Amhara region & 6 for SNNPR)


Roles and responsibilities of Research Assistants (Data Collector)



  • Understand study protocol

  • Participate on pre-test of tools in selected sites and generate relevant input for refinement of tools.

  • Collect data from defined study participants using data collection tools.

  • Following comments from supervisor & make corrections to data generated from the field.

  • Ensure vigilant adherence to research ethics as per provisions during training.

  • Submit all raw data including survey materials and Models used during data collection to JSI/IFHR

  • Identify and report problems in obtaining valid data.

  • Meet with supervisor daily to submit completed questionnaire and discuss progress.

  • Review data obtained from study participants for completeness and accuracy.

  • Submit alt raw data including survey materials and Models used during data collection to JSI/IFHP.

Qualifications & Experiences:


  • BSc Degree in health related field

  • BEmONC ToT training and experience in BEmONC training facilitation

  • Previous data collection experience in the same area is a plus.

  • Willingness to work in remote areas.

2. Data Collector Supervisor

Duty Station: south Gondar, Amhara and Sidama, SNNPR


Duration of assignment: Minimum of 10 days


Number: 3 (1 for Amhara and 2 for SNNPR)


Roles and responsibilities of Data Collector Supervisor



  • Understand study protocol and data collection techniques from Lead Consultant and JSI/IFHP.

  • Develop activity plans under guidance of lead consultant and communicate the plans with the data collectors.

  • Provide support and guidance to data collectors during data collection process,

  • Check data for accuracy.

  • Compile and prepare progress report to the Lead Consultant.

  • Arrange and provide administrative and logistic support to the Research Assistant (Data collectors).

  • Provide feedback to the Lead Consultant/JSI/IFHP on team members’ performance in order to spread knowledge and develop team members.

Qualifications:


  • BSc Degree in health related fields

  • Experience in data collection and Data Collector Supervisor for the same research

  • BEmONC ToT Trained and experience of BEmONC training facilitation

  • MPH is an added advantage

  • Willingness to work in remote areas.
