The African Union, established as a unique Pan African continental body, is charged with spearheading Africa’s rapid integration and sustainable development by promoting unity, solidarity, cohesion and cooperation among the peoples of Africa and African States as well as developing a new partnership worldwide. Its Headquarters is located in Addis Ababa, capital city of Ethiopia.
In seeking to achieve these objectives, the African Union intends to strengthen its capacity to deliver by, among others, the implementation of new organization structure and the filling of regular and short-term vacant posts.
The Commission of the African Union invites applicants who are citizens of Member States for the short-term post of Veterinary Vaccines Quality Supervisor, AU-PANVAC.

2. Major Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Director, PANVAC, the Senior Veterinary Vaccines Quality Supervisor is responsible for the following
- Participate in implementation and monitoring of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and quality assurance principles into PANVAC’s laboratories.
- Participate in laboratory activities for priority vaccines quality control testing according to international standards.
- Participate in the preparation and/or maintenance of PANVAC repository of seed material, cell cultures, quality control standards and key reference reagents.
- Assist in the preparation of Manufacturing instruction manuals (Master Formulae), Standard Operating Procedures Manuals and other technical manuals for priority vaccines.
- Implement the training and technology transfer programme of PANVAC, especially in supervising the work of trainees at PANVAC.
- Participate in the introduction of new/improved vaccine production or quality control techniques in the Region.
- Contribute to the promotion of the regional production, standardization and distribution of biologics used for animal disease diagnosis and surveillance.
- Participate in network laboratories external quality assessment and accreditation.
- Contribute to PANVAC’s communication programme.
- Assist in the implementation and operation of PANVAC cost recovery system and other resources mobilization activities.
- Assist the Director in the preparation of PANVAC’s work plans and reports.
- Perform any other related duties as required by the Director of PANVAC.

4. Educational Qualifications
Candidates must be a Veterinarian with MSC/PhD degree in Veterinary Microbiology, Virology or Science Laboratory Technology or related fields.
5. Work Experience
The incumbent should have a minimum of 5 years of laboratory working experience in the field of Veterinary vaccine production and Quality Control.
6. Other Relevant Skills
- Computer literary
- Excellent drafting and reporting skills.
- Good communication and negotiating skills.
- Good planning and organizational skills.
7. Language Requirement
Proficiency in one of the AU working languages (English, French, Arabic and Portuguese) is a must. Knowledge of second or all of the other working languages would be an added advantage
8. Tenure of Appointment
The appointment will be made on a fixed term contract for a period of One Year (1), of which the first three (3) month will be considered as a probationary period.

10. Remuneration
The salary attached to the position is a fixed monthly lump sum of US$ 4,776.34 ( GSA 6 Step 5) inclusive of all allowances for internationally recruited staff, and US$ 2,188.64 inclusive of all allowances for locally recruited staff.
