The positions
The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks to hire an Administrative Assistant for its Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Office (ESAO) Division in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
General
IFPRI is one of the international agricultural research institutes organized under the CGIAR Consortium. The mandate of IFPRI is to identify and analyze alternative national and international strategies and policies for meeting world food needs in ways that conserve the natural resource base, with emphasis on low income and on the poorer groups in the countries. Job Purpose
The overall purpose of the job is liaising with IFPRI researchers, continental and regional organizations and other partners in developing policy solutions and using them for communication and advocacy for food and nutrition security, poverty reduction and improved livelihoods for the people of eastern and southern Africa; contributing to research design and empirical analysis of primary and secondary data in IFPRI’s research areas; ensuring sustainable food production; promoting healthy food systems; improving markets and trade; transforming agriculture; building resilience and strengthening institutions and governance.
Main Responsibilities
The Research Officer will provide research assistance to the Office Head of ESAO and designated staff in the following specific functions
- Coordinates the Regional Strategic Analysis and Knowledge Support System (ReSAKSS) activities across Africa;
- Writes literature review, research reports, and advocacy notes;
- Conducts and analyzes primary and secondary data using descriptive and advanced multivariate analytical methods;
- Drafts, edits and/transcribes reports, manuscripts, proposals and other documents;
- Writes concept notes and funding proposals;
- Organizes seminars, workshops and other learning events;
- Any other responsibilities that will be assigned by supervisor and or/management;
Minimum Requirements
Education
- Masters degree in Agricultural Economics, Economics or related field.
Experience
- At least five years relevant work experience post-Masters graduation in a research or academic institution.
Skills and Competencies
- Proficiency in using statistical packages like STATA, SPSS and SAS
- Good quantitative analytical skills
- Thorough knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, graphics and data management
- Excellent knowledge of both written and spoken English
- Familiarity with continental and regional organization such as African Union and regional economic communities
- Good knowledge of the Eastern and southern Africa region.
Duty Station
Position level
Minimum Base salary
- Birr 27,556 per month (Negotiable depending on experience, skill and salary history of the candidate)
Terms of appointment: Initial appointment is for three years renewable appointment based on performance and funding availability.
