Job Description

In seeking to achieve these objectives, the African Union intends to strengthen its capacity to deliver by, among others, the implementation of new organization structure and the filling of regular and short-term vacant posts.

The Commission of the African Union invites applicants who are citizens of Member States for the short-term post of Veterinary Vaccines Quality Supervisor, AU-PANVAC.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Director, PANVAC, the Animal Health Supervisor is responsible for the following

• Participate in the implementation and monitoring of Good Management Practices and quality assurance principles in PANVAC’s animal laboratories.


• Maintain good husbandry practices for laboratory animal management.


• Participate in the implementation safety studies for vaccines quality control testing according to international standards.


• Support laboratory activities for the production of laboratory biologicals and reagents of animal base


• Assist in the preparation of Instruction manuals, Standard Operating Procedures and other technical manuals for management of laboratory animals.


• Ensure good animal nutrition and health


• Participate in network laboratories external quality assessment and accreditation.


• Contribute to PANVAC’s communication programme.


• Assist the Director in the preparation of PANVAC’s work plans and reports.


• Perform any other related duties as required by the Director of PANVAC.

Educational Qualifications

Candidates must hold at least a Diploma in Animal Science or related fields.

Work Experience

The incumbent should have a minimum of 5 years of laboratory working experience in the field of Laboratory Animal Management.

• Computer literary


• Excellent drafting and reporting skills.


• Good communication and negotiating skills.


• Good planning and organizational skills.

Language Requirement

• Proficiency in one of the AU working languages (English, French, Arabic and Portuguese) is a must.


• Knowledge of second or all of the other working languages would be an added advantage

Tenure of Appointment

The appointment will be made on a fixed term contract for a period of One Year (1), of which the first three (3) month will be considered as a probationary period.

Remuneration

The salary attached to the position is a fixed monthly lump sum of US$ 1,274.68 ( GSA 3 Step 5) inclusive of all allowances.
