Women and Cooperative Development Coordinator Job at ACDI/VOCA - 2015

ACDI/VOCA is a private, nonprofit international development organization, promoting economic opportunities for farmers, businesses and communities through technical assistance in its five core practice areas: agribusiness systems, enterprise development, financial systems, community development, and food security. In Ethiopia, ACDI/VOCA has implemented the USAID funded Cooperative Development Program (CDP) project since 2011, and the program is expected to end on September 30, 2016. The project provides high quality to cooperatives in the country where it focuses on the institutional strengthening and capacity building of cooperatives to increase members’ income, expand trade and investment opportunities, and improve the associated legal and regulatory environment. Currently, CDP Ethiopia works with five unions and 15 primary cooperatives.


 


ACDI/VOCA is currently recruiting a Women and Cooperative Development Coordinator for its Cooperative Development Program based in Addis Ababa with regular travel to the interior of the country.


 


Responsibilities:


·         Responsible for women’s empowerment in cooperative development activities


·         Review current training materials and provide recommendations.


·         Lead training for women’s inclusion activities.


·         Work with government entities to gain support for women’s inclusion in cooperatives.


·         Work through the Agricultural Growth Program-Agribusiness and Market Development (AGP-AMDe) to collaborate with Women in Agribusiness Leadership Network (WALN) to expand their campaigns to CDP target areas.


·         Review project activities and develop a gender integration plan on how to integrate gender into program activities.


·         Identify and collaborate with other cooperative development programs working in women’s empowerment.


·         Identify and develop opportunities to promote public awareness of the project, ACDI/VOCA and USAID as appropriate.


·         Contribute to project reports, including reports to the government of Ethiopia, semi-annual report to USAID, and others as requested.


·         Contribute to the implementation of the Monitoring and Evaluation plan


·         Regularly monitor progress of beneficiary organizations at field level.


·         Contribute to the collaboration and learning under CDP for the final year of the project.


·         Liaison with all Cooperative Learning and Information Centers (CLICs); contribute to quarterly CLIC meetings, provide support to CLICs in external communications and marketing.


·         Contribute to East Africa/Ethiopia learning event with CDP staff and ACDI/VOCA headquarters




Education and Experience:


·         BA/BS degree in Gender Studies, Anthropology, Psychology, Cooperative Management, Marketing, Management, or related field with a minimum of five years of relevant work experience.


·         Prior exposure to Gender Studies required.


·         Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative management style.


·         Certificates in related field holders are a plus.


Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


·         Clear understanding of gender relationships within the region required.


·         Proven skills in developing and conducting trainings.


·         Proven skills in designing and conducting interviews and focus groups.


·         Strong verbal and writing skills in English required.
