PROGRAM DESCRIPTION


International Medical Corps is recruiting for a highly qualified Gender Technical Coordinator (GTC) to be based in Ethiopia for an anticipated five –year Food for Peace (FFP) Development Food Assistance Program (DFAP). The GTC Coordinator will work closely with the Chief of Party (CoP) and Deputy Chief of Party.


JOB SUMMARY


The GTC will ensure a gendered approach throughout the DFAP program assessments, planning and implementation that takes into account the differences in men’s, women’s, boys’, and girls’ roles in the community context, as well as the intergenerational and gendered inequalities that exist within a household. The GTC will work closely with the DFAP team, the government, local authorities, and other key stakeholders to address gender-related differences, needs and inequalities, and ensure a direct, comprehensive approach to dealing with them in the DFAP programming. This position will be based in Addis Ababa.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


•Among other gender-related objectives, the Gender Technical Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring and/or promoting in the DFAP the equitable participation by men, women, boys and girls and the reduction of gender inequalities to achieve nutritional outcomes and strengthen resilience to food insecurity.


•The GTC will ensure that USAID’s Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Policy, Food for Peace gender guidance, ADS 205, and other relevant gender principles, policies and regulations will be applied consistently throughout the DFAP initiative.


•The GTC will also advise and ensure that gender-based violence (GBV) and female empowerment will be addressed in the DFAP activities.


•Monitor project activities and tracking these activities against the results framework.


•Provide technical leadership and support to project and partner staff in planning and implementing gender related activities.


Supervise, mentor, and build capacity of project staff and partners.


Qualifications:


•Master’s Degree in gender/women’s studies, international development, public health, nutrition or related area preferred.


•Minimum of five years of relevant experience working on problem assessments related to nutrition, livelihoods, food security, DRR and/or WASH programs.


•Proven ability to apply gender-sensitive and gender-transformative approaches on DFAP initiatives or on programs similar to DFAP initiatives.


•Demonstrated ability to work with host government and partners in implementing a complex project in the field under challenging circumstances.


•Significant knowledge of gender principles as they relate to livelihoods, nutrition and resilience for community-based programs.


•Significant knowledge of the health and nutrition system in Ethiopia, specifically as it relates to government policies, programs and partnerships addressing the needs of food security.
