Job Description
Under the guidance of the program manager at field office level, the post holder will be responsible for overall coordination of project activities of ‘Strengthening new-born health in Ethiopia through the 100,000 Babies Initiatives implemented in South Wollo Zone’. S/He will ensure that the project activities are effectively coordinated with other maternal and new-born health projects. S/he will provide technical and logistics support in the overall implementation of the project activities which contributes to the reduction of neonatal mortality by improving facility based essential new-born care and care for small /pre-term and sick babies at hospitals and selected health centres in South Wollo Zone
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
Project coordination
Coordinates the project in close collaboration with the clinical supervisors and the Health Program ManagerBuilds the overall capacity of the South Wollo zonal health department, the woreda health offices and health facilities to enable them successfully implement the project activitiesWorks closely with the Zonal Health Department/Woreda health offices in the planning, implementation and monitoring of the overall facility-based newborn activities in the zoneWorks closely with the Zonal Health Department/Woreda health offices and Health Program Manger to implement quality improvement approaches in the health facilitiesProvides technical and logistics support to the South Wollo Zonal Health Departments in Amhara regionMentor and supervisor clinical officers and ensures they provide quality technical support to health workers at health centres and hospitalsConduct joint supportive supervision to health facilitiesFoster effective collaboration with Zonal Health Departments and Woreda Health Offices to ensure availability and reliable supply of newborn care equipment and supplies for the successful implementation of the programEnsures the provision of newborn trainings and regular supportive supervision of health facilities are of high quality and as per the scheduleCoordinates procurement of supplies/medical equipment (based on gap assessment)to establish/strengthen new-born corners Ensures the establishment of well-functioning and quality newborn corners within the health facilitiesParticipates in the development of the work plan of the clinical supervisors, ensures the achievement of specific assigned objectives.Provides guidance and support to clinical supervisors in meeting project objectives.
Monitoring and evaluation
Engages in baseline/end line facility assessmentIn coordination with and support from relevant MEAL and thematic teams, analyse and use data for decision making at the project level
Reporting
To provide monthly activity report to the program manager Assist the Program Manager in preparing programme/project status reportsTo gather information, document and communicate project achievements and lessons learned and best practicesBuilding strong partnership and working closely with Woreda, Zonal and other non-governmental partners To perform any other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the unit head/his or her supervisor
Job Requirements
MPH/BSc in public health, health management or health related fields At least 4 years of relevant work experience in MNCH of which at least two are within the NGO environmentComputer literacy in all the Microsoft office applications, and internet literacy are requiredProven ability to analyse data and write quality reportsFamiliarity with the national IMNCI, community based newborn care and maternal health program implementationExperienced in organizing and facilitating trainingExcellent interpersonal communication skills (both written and verbal)Experience in working with multicultural team and complex projects Fluency in English, writing and speaking and local languageAbility to work in team, strong negotiation and analytical skills; ability to multitask and work under pressure and tight deadlines.Willingness to intensively travel outside of Dessie within intervention WoredasCommitment to Save the Children values
