Project Director - Education, Addis Ababa with frequent field travel

Save the Children UK (SC UK) has been operational in Ethiopia since 1973 and the organisation has developed into one of the largest international NGOs in the country. Currently SC UK operates a programme that involves humanitarian relief, development and the relationship between them. Programmes encompass four thematic areas: Education, Hunger Reduction (Livelihoods, Nutrition, and Information Systems), Health and HIV/AIDS, and Child Protection. We also have an emergencies unit and a Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) team. SC UK works to ensure quality programming on the ground forms the basis upon which to advocate for changes in policy and practice by key duty-bearers at regional, national and global levels.

The SC UK Ethiopia Country Programme has more than 500 staff and is organised into four departments: Policy and Programme Development (P&PD), Programme Operations, Finance, and Human Resources/Administration.

Save the Children is recruiting for an experienced Project Director to lead a flagship girls' education programme in the Afar Region of Ethiopia. The project brings together an experienced group of international and local implementing organisations in the region to deliver a high quality, integrated programme, focused on improving girls' access to, retention and achievement in primary education.

The Project Director will provide strategic and operational leadership and assume the overall responsibility for the implementation of a large-scale (approx £10m), consortium based girls' education project. The Project Director must bring a senior leadership profile with a proven track record in managing complex programming delivery in fragile and conflict affected countries, preferably in the education sector.
