In Ethiopia, GIZ has been working for more than 40 years in bilateral cooperation on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and on commission of the Ethiopian Government and International Donors.
GIZ seeks a highly motivated and qualified Regional Project Officer to join the project team entitled ‘Integrated Soil Fertility Management’. In close collaboration with regional partners, s/he will oversee and coordinate project activities in the respective regions.
The positions are based in Addis Ababa, Bahirdar and Mekele respectively and require frequent field visits to the respective regions Oromia, Amhara and Tigray.
The Regional Project Officer reports to the Project Coordinator and works closely with the Senior Project Officer.

Responsibilities;
• Represent the ISFM+ project at regional level
• Liaise with government, NGO and private sector stakeholders in the respective region
• In close consultation and coordination with partners, contribute to the planning and implementation of project activities
• Ensure successful and cost-effective implementation of project activities according to agreed plans and time frames. Project implementation shall build on and therefore needs close interaction with the SWC measures under the GIZ-SLM program.
• Provide technical backstopping to partner organizations
• Identify training needs, prepares, plans and implements relevant training courses and workshops
• In coordination with partner organizations, plan and organize promotional activities
• Identify opportunities for the creation of community-based income generating activities or small businesses related to soil fertility management
• Contribute to the development of innovative implementation procedures and of new project ideas
• Contribute to project monitoring & evaluation activities and report writing
• Identify, document and share best practices and innovations
• Perform other duties as require.
Minimum Requirements;
Education: BSc/MSc in Agriculture or Natural Resource Management
Experience: At least 5 years / three years’ experience in a rural development context with government and NGO stakeholders. Expertise in soil fertility management and applied research is a strong plus.
