RTI is recruiting for the USAID Ethiopia READ-TA education project, focused on curriculum revision and textbook development. We are looking for proven performance in a variety of areas, with knowledge and experience in implementing evidence-based approaches to instructional improvement. 1. GENDER AND INCLUSIVE EDUCATION SPECIALIST – Based in BahirDar
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Gender and Inclusive Education Specialist will be responsible for Gender and Inclusive Education for one of the regional offices. S/he will direct Gender/Inclusive Education activities supporting the achievement of READ TA goals in a manner that is constant with sound management principles. The Gender and Inclusive Education Specialist oversees READ TA Gender and Inclusive Education activities.
Overall Gender and Inclusive Education Specialist responsibilities include: participating in READ TA discussions, Annual Work Plan development and review; assessing needs for training and on-going technical support to RTI staff and RSEBs; documenting lessons learned; providing advice on gender and inclusive education; developing tools, i.e., power point presentations, pamphlets, brochures and other items to enhance awareness and support beneficiaries.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
Participate in Annual Work Plan, PMP and other Reviews of READ TA
Contribute information specific to Gender and Inclusive EducationParticipate in developing the Annual Work Plan with the Regional Team Develop Monthly Plans to support implementation of Annual Work Plan in the RegionProvide quarterly report of the Regional activitiesSupport necessary administrative and logistical support for smooth implementation of READ TA including site visits for counterparts, donors and visitors. Support coordination the work of short-term consultants as needed (if their work involves focus on Gender and/or Inclusive Education)
Participate on READ TA Regional Team
Understand alliances to provide more informed inputContribute to documentation for READ TA regional and national reportsMeet to identify gender/inclusive education issues, develop solutions and take action as needed
Gender and Inclusive Education in READ TA Resources
Mobilize, train and provide on-going technical support to technical staff on gender, focusing on how to design and implement their programs in a sensitive gender inclusive manner Examine program implementation and assess improvements based on lessons learned, best practices, technical advances, etc. Ensure gender/inclusive technical resources are available to READ TA staff
Capacity Building for Gender and Inclusive Education
Collaborate in the development of tools to enhance gender/inclusive awareness-raising and mainstreaming Provide advice on strengthening M & E of gender/inclusion Support gender capacity development processes including identifying capacity building needs and providing gender/inclusive training to staff, beneficiaries, stakeholders, and Partners, as needed Prepare documentation on READ TA gender equity/inclusive best practices and lessons learned and disseminate among staff Plan field visit to review programs and build staff capacity in Gender mainstreaming and inclusion
Mentoring and Coaching
Provide mentoring and coaching to READ TA Staff, RSEBs, and MoE as needed
Minimum Required Education & Experience
Education
MA or equivalent in Development Studies, Gender Studies, Inclusive Education, or related disciplineCourses in inclusion, gender, women’s studies, or human rights desirable
Experience:
Minimum 1 year for MA or 3 years of experience for BA at the regional or national levelHands-on experience in design, monitoring and evaluation of development projects and programs3 years of experience dealing with issues of women’s rights and gender mainstreaming within educational systems, agencies or international systemsExperience in mentoring desirableFamiliarity with gender and inclusive education approachesEvidence of leading implementation on new systems and affect staff behavior/attitudinal changeIT experience in MS WordFamiliarity with the issues of women’s rights and gender mainstreaming within educational systems, agencies or international systems3 years of experience collaborating with a small team
