We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of: Social Protection Specialist, Addressing Child Labor in Ethiopia.

Project Description:

Reporting to the Project Director, the Social Protection Specialist will be responsible for improving access to social protection programs for youth and their households. The Social Protection Specialist will be involved in developing and managing interventions that could include one or more of the following: building linkages to government programs that seek to mitigate the impact of economic shocks, promote equity, and reduce poverty; expanding access to health insurance, cash transfer programs, scholarships, and similar programs; and building linkages to public works programs that promote decent work.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide technical leadership in social protection interventions.With technical oversight, provide technical leadership in design, development, planning, implementation; and capacity- building in social protection.Participate in resource development activities.Responsible for accomplishing assigned job responsibilities, and following the standards and practices of the department and division.Responsible for planning and scheduling own work flow and timetables, within area and function guidelines.Identify areas for improved efficiency or effectiveness within prescribed parameters, and institutes enhancements to procedures.Maintain a constructive dialogue and technical exchange with field counterparts and technical staff of implementing partners.Develop and maintains collaborative relationships with donor/client organizations, relevant government agencies, bilateral and other NGOs.Develop tools for the design and implementation of specific technical components.Ensures that project implementation adheres to the appropriate global strategy and remains technically sound.

Skills and Experience:

University degree in social work, public policy, economics, international development or related field of study; Master’s Degree preferred.Minimum of three years of experience in a leadership position responsible for developing social protection interventions.Experience with the technical aspects related to the Applicant’s proposed strategy, including programs that seek to mitigate the impact of economic shocks, promote equity, and reduce poverty, as applicable.Experience with projects that promote social protection, including by improving access to health insurance, cash transfer programs, scholarships, and public works programs.Understanding of social protection issues.Experience working successfully with government agencies and private organizations engaged in the provision of social protection services.Experience working with relevant government agencies and civil society organizations.Fluency in Amharic required. Knowledge of English preferred.
