Role Purpose: In Brief
· Quality & Environment Manager is responsible for leadership and development of professional and administrative quality and environmental staff ensuring all environmental and quality programs, procedures, training, work practices and controls are effectively implemented.
o Managing work team, which includes several technical and administrative level positions. Participation in budget preparation and tracking, establishing and monitoring progress toward department goals.
o Facilitation of program objectives completion by providing clear, continuous direction to the staff. Identifying needed support from outside consultants, developing scopes of work and managing issuance of contracts.
o Managing environmental processes within the company’s operations to assure proper waste management and minimization practices in accordance with regulatory requirements.
o Responsible for the evaluation and inspection of all incoming barrels, corks, and maintains specifications for packaging materials, bottle package, QC procedures and processes, including incoming material acceptance. Works with Senior Winemaker and purchasing department to ensure that quality standards are met for all wine additives, including yeast, DAP, acids and other yeast foods.
o Audit crush and bottling facilities as well as selected production materials vendors to ensure compliance with approved quality standards.
o Oversees the chemical testing to control quality of all incoming, in process and outgoing products in the lab or bottling areas. Provides technical services and advice to other operating departments when required. Develops testing methods to control the quality of new products.
o Managing environmental processes within the company’s operations to assure proper surface and ground water management (i.e. permitting, treatment, etc) and spill and contingency planning are in compliance with regulatory requirements.
o Monitoring developing environmental regulatory requirements and risk initiatives; analyze potential impacts on system operations; provide operations and upper management with information as appropriate.
o Managing of Environment & Quality documents and contract administration as well as associated retention rules. This would include securing and management of the necessary third-party resources to fill any gaps in competency and/or capacity.
o Representing and participating the organization at various industry associations through participation on committees or task teams.
o training staff at all levels in environmental and quality issues and responsibilities;
Qualifications and Experience
BSC/ MSC/ degree in Chemistry or related with 10 years’ experience in the area with 3 years on managerial position, know wine industry, beverage or food industry quality control experience, experience in multinational working environment
Thorough understanding of risk management, related to environmental, and loss control methodology and demonstrated experience in the application of Quality & Environment management systems.
Knows Ethiopian Quality Standards of beverage products and environment & industrial Safety laws, Quality sensitive, visionary, passionate about quality.
Good knowledge in quality management system ( ISO 9001: 2008), environmental management system ( ISO 14001), quality management system auditing and food safety management system (HACCP)
Very Good English
