Scope/Job Purpose:
The Health Assistant is a part of the health team working in Sherkole Refugee Camp and the primary focus of the position is to engage and educate the camp population, specifically the sexually active women and men of the camp, about RH issues, particularly regarding FP counseling ; distribution of the contraceptives and prevention and control of HIV/AIDS. Related to this, the Health Assistant will also be involved in STI/HIV/AIDS activities as per the RH & HIV/AIDS strategic plan designed for the refugee camps and local host community, as needed. The Health Assistant is expected to collaborate with the Health Officer, health Social Workers (SW), Youth Health Club and peer -to- peer education groups, ARRA health centre staff and other key stakeholder in Sherkole Refugee Camp to ensure the successful realization of RH and HIV/AIDS program activities and goals in Sherkole Refugee Camp.
Responsibilities:
Technical
· In collaboration with the Health officer, design culturally appropriate RH/FP and STI/HIV/AIDS awareness campaigns.
· Organize accurate and relevant RH/FP content material for the house-to-house visits conducted by the health social worker in collaboration with health officer update health messages timely
· Conduct trainings, workshops and review meetings on relevant RH and HIV topics for the beneficiaries per the agreed project document.
· Establish and facilitate Mother to mother support groups and Support male RH involvement in the camp.
· Supervise Health Social workers, Mentor mothers and peer educators and provide technical support on identified gaps.
· Assist the health social worker in the processing, monitoring and follow-up of women who have received FP methods through community-based distribution.
· Maintain condom and modern contraceptives stock and request PR before the stock is out.
· Attend monthly health coordination meeting that conduct in the camp with other implementing partners.
· Conduct identification, hot spot mapping of sex workers and refer them to ARRA Health Center for proper case profiling and clinical health care services.
· Collect and Write monthly health activities report and submit to Health officer/Camp manager/ Health manager on time.
· Perform other related tasks assigned by immediate supervisor/s.
Program Management
Grant Management
· Follow all IRC’S standard grant Management tools as recommended by the Addis and Field office based health units and M and E unit as well.
· Ensure that all activities are implemented according to the work plan & the targets are met.
· Participate in grant open and closing as needed and participate in planning of activities.
· Prepare Activity, spending and procurement plan for the specific grants.
Budget Monitoring
· Work closely with the Health Officer and Camp manger to manage the utilization of grant budget per the donors’ rules and regulation.
· Raise PRs as required for the implementation of program activities in consultation with Health officer.
· Track the program budget regularly by using budget tracking tools.
Monitoring and Evaluation
· Monitors the implementation of HIV/AIDs and RH activities in the camp.
· Ensure that the stated goals and objectives of the program are met.
· Conduct regular supervision to community health workers/Health Social workers.
· Write and submit monthly progress reports of the sector to the Health Officer, Camp manager and Health manager.
· Conduct regular data auditing for community based health education activities.
· Prepare and distribute reporting and check list formats to the community health workers.
Human Resource Management
· Recruit competent and qualified Health Social Workers to gather with Camp HR department.
· Conduct evaluation of health social workers performance and build their capacity based on the result of the evaluation.
KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Internal
Directly supervised by the Health Officer and receives technical support from Health Officer, Camp manager and Health manager. Closely work and integrate with IRC’s CWI, and WATR program in the camp.
External
ARRA Medical staffs, Key community members, local Woreda Health offices & other similar Implementing partners in the camp.
