RTI is recruiting for the USAID Ethiopia READ-TA education project, focused on curriculum revision and textbook development. We are looking for proven performance in a variety of areas, with knowledge and experience in implementing evidence-based approaches to instructional improvement. 1. ACCOUNTANT – Based in Addis Ababa
JOB SUMMARY:
The Accountant is responsible for ensuring appropriate systems and procedures (payroll, cash management, vendor payments, budgeting and other related expenditures) are followed to properly disburse, account, budget and report project funds which are cost effective, timely, have proper internal controls and comply with the terms of the agreement.
S/he supports READ TA Finance Staff in the Regional Offices. As a member of the GILO Administrative Team, the position is responsible to contribute to issues resolution and financial planning. S/he reports to the Finance Manager. The Accountant is expected to devote up to 20% of her/his time for field travel.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
Focus 1: Functional Support
Provide functional support for RTI’s finance and accounting functions.
Focus 2: Financial Transactions
Keep track of expenses and other financial transactions, i.e., entry, tracking, and record keepingEnsure transactions are in compliance with RTI procedures and terms of the agreementReconcile cash accounts for field officesPerform the cash management functions required in maintaining RTI bank accountsManage petty cash accountsReview and submit monthly bank reconciliations.
Focus 3: Financial Reports
Support monthly expense reports to the RTI home officeFollow up with field IRS offices to make sure that by weekly expense reporting are submitted within the deadline.Maintain hard and soft Filing System to manage contracts, payments and bank statements.
Focus 4: Grants and PPP
Manage grants financial management, in coordination with the Finance and HR ManagerMaintain a data base with PPP and Cost Share
Focus 5: Inventory Tracking
Review inventory tracking system
Focus 6: Reviews
Provide periodic reviews to ensure compliance with RTI procedures and terms of the agreementRecommend necessary ideas based on the review findings to regional controller to improve quality of reporting.
Focus 7: Training and Leadership
Provide training and training materials for Regional Finance/Administration staff.
Focus 8: Relationships and Communications
Maintain good working relationships with external partners and government bodies. Replace Procurement Specialist role in her/his absence.Perform other duties as assigned by the Finance Manager.
Minimum Required Education & Experience
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance.
Experience:
Minimum three years of experience in accounting or finance fieldExperience with a USAID-funded project is advantageous
Skills and Abilities
Strong analytical, planning, and research skills.Excellent managerial, supervisory, and interpersonal skills.Excellent reputation for developing and maintaining clear and concise records.Ability to manage multiple priorities and demanding timeframes.Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.Strong computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and willingness to learn/use RTI software.
