Within delegated authority, the duties of the Economic Affairs Officer will be the following:
-Monitors developments in the mineral sector at global, regional and national levels;
-Conducts research and analysis related to mineral sector governance to develop recommendations through the use of relevant tools and policy research methodologies;
-Identifies emerging issues and trends that affect the African Mineral Sector;
-Interprets, applies and, as necessary, adapts models to determine trends, patterns and relationships and the effects of alternative policies related to the mineral sector;
-Drafts inputs for global, regional and national Mineral Sector technical reports;
- Identifies and analyses policy proposals relating to the mineral sector governance to provide a basis for advising national governments on mineral policy and economic development issues;
-Attends international, regional, and national meetings to collect information and to hold discussions with colleagues in other institutions;
-Assists in the organization and servicing of expert group meetings, seminars, etc. on mineral sector governance issues;
-Prepares speeches and other inputs for presentations by senior staff;
-Assists in the organization of panels, round tables etc. on development issues for intergovernmental processes,
-Participates in missions on development issues, usually as a member of a team;
-Monitors, backstops and assesses the implementation of technical cooperation programs and projects;
-Prepares inputs for reports to intergovernmental bodies;
-Prepares documentation for technical cooperation programs and projects.
-Contributes to the preparation of material for the approval of regional, country or sector technical cooperation projects;
-Monitors, backstops and assesses the implementation of technical cooperation programs and projects.
-Undertakes on-the-job and other training activities, both internally and externally;
-Performs other related duties as required, including a variety of administrative tasks necessary for the final delivery of the work unit’s services.
