ABOUT THE PARTNER ORGANIZATION
Hospice Ethiopia (HE) is a legally registered indigenous not-for-profit organization that has been providing
comprehensive palliative and hospice care and support to cancer and/or HIV and AIDS patients, largely in
the capital city of Addis Ababa.
THE VOLUNTEER'S ROLE
Overall placement purpose and specific placement objectives:
To build the capacity of Hospice Ethiopia to sustain its programs so that it could support the community in
the endeavor to combat HIV & AIDS
Specific Objectives:
• Financial Stability through Resource Mobilization
o Develop a Resource Mobilization Strategy
o Put in place Documentation/Reporting Mechanism
o Increase paid membership of Hospice Ethiopia and develop membership database
o Raise funds in cash and in-kind through the development of concept notes, proposals,
budget, etc.
• Strategic Communication
o Develop and implement a Communication Strategy
o Implement a system of documentation and archiving
o Utilize the Hospice Ethiopia website (write and update content)
o Utilize social media for promotion, fund raising and advocacy
• Partnership and Networking
o Review current partnerships and identify potential new strategic partners
o Develop and enter into strategic partnership agreements in support of government initiatives
o Strengthen partnership particularly with hospitals and health centers to enhance and
streamline patient referrals
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
• It is a requirement of this placement that the volunteer must have or be eligible for an Ethiopian
Origin Identity Card (Yellow Card) and obtain the Card prior to placement:
• MA in Development Studies:- Public Health, social science, Business Management or any related development field
• 3-5 years' experience working development fields Relevant experience in fund raising and programme management
Desirable
• Qualification in training, workshop organization and Communication
• NGO work experience
• HIV and AIDS related work experience
TRAINING AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT
Our training and support package covers the costs of being an overseas volunteer, allowing you to enjoy a modest but healthy lifestyle while you volunteer abroad. This includes:
• Attendance at a Cuso International assessment day (candidates must cover the first $150 of the most cost-effective travel expenses and accommodation costs).
• Travel and accommodation costs associated with pre-departure training. • Return airfare and visa/permit (this includes a return flight in the case of a family emergency).
• Coverage for required vaccinations, medications and comprehensive health insurance. • Accommodation while overseas.
• A modest living allowance, which varies depending on the country where you are placed • Quarterly payments to support you in your placement • Modest support for accompanying partners
