BACKGROUND:
The Agricultural Transformation Agency (ATA) has been established by the Government of Ethiopia (GoE) to identify and address systemic bottlenecks to Ethiopia’s agricultural development. The Agency does this through problem-solving, implementation support, and capacity building of stakeholders involved in implementation of interventions that address the systemic bottlenecks. The Agency reports to a Transformation Council chaired by the Prime Minister and whose co-chair is the Minister of Agriculture.
The programmatic focus of the Agency responds to a core set of needs identified by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Transformation Council. Within the Agency, issues are divided into four different groups: Production and Productivity which includes Inputs and Crop Protection, Livestock, Research and Extension, Mechanization, Rural Finance & Agro-Processing Value Addition; Agribusiness and Markets including Market Services, Market Infrastructure, Commercial & Contract Farming, Domestic and Export Market Development, and Cooperatives Development; Environmentally Sustainable and Inclusive Agricultural Growthincluding Sustainable Irrigation & Watershed Management, Sustainable Land Management, Gender Equality and Nutrition, Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management, and Planning and MLE; and Enhanced Implementation Capacity which includes ICT, Private Sector, and Organizational and Human Capacity. Across the programs, the ATA engages public, private and non-governmental stakeholders to support strategic planning, manage and strengthen implementation capacity and test innovative models.

POSITION SUMMARY:
ATA, in collaboration with Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Bureaus of Agriculture, USAID and CNFA, is implementing a three-year Feed the Future Ethiopia Commercial Farm Services Project. The objective of this project is to improve smallholder farmers’ productivity, food security and income through the development of sustainable private sector driven agricultural input supply and services by creating 20 new Farm Service Centers (FSCs) throughout Oromia, Amhara, Tigray and SNNP Regions. These FSCs will serve as innovative and replicable private, retail input supply and farm service businesses model for scaling up private farm supply and service networks in Ethiopia and throughout Africa.
Working under the direct supervision of the regional Logistics officer, the driver is responsible for providing transportation service for the Commercial Farm Services Project team in the region and authorized guests by safely driving vehicle. The position holder is also responsible for careful handling of the vehicle s/he is responsible for and for proper planning of travel schedule in a cost effective, time efficient manner. The driver will be based in Hawassa with frequent travel to project target Woredas; as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Strictly adherence to the ATA’s vehicle policies and procedures.
- Regularly inspects vehicle for defects and safe operating condition before, during and after trips and report on the condition of vehicle at the end of each trip.
- Informs staff about the precautious that they should take before and during the trip and give special attention to travelers’ safety and security
- Drives any vehicle assigned in a safe and professional manner.
- Keeps the assigned vehicles clean, fueled and mechanically sound.
- Completes the vehicle log book accurately and submit the log book for inspection on a regular basis to the supervisor.
- Responsible for reasonable fuel consumption and regularly check the fuel, oil and water of assigned vehicle.
- Operates the vehicle in accordance with national and local driving laws at all times.
- Assists the passengers assigned to the vehicle, as requested.
- Inform his/her supervisor of all vehicle movements when leaving the site and ensure that all vehicle movements are recorded on the formats prepared for vehicle movements.
- Responsible for all tools, medical kits and any other equipment supplied with the vehicle and keep these tools from damage or misuse.
- Responsible for the safe delivery of any consignments assigned to the vehicle.
- Assists travelers with loading, unloading, packing and transferring any material as requested.
- Assists in and ensure that loading and unloading of the vehicle is carried out in a safe manner, and that the vehicle is not overloaded.
- Conducts standard checks of the vehicle every day before operating and be responsible for ensuring any regular maintenance work is carried out.
- Reminds the supervisor at least one week in advance of scheduled maintenance work being due.
- Advising the Transport officer of pending inspections, insurance renewal or any defects or problems.
- Drive safely as per the driving rules and regulations of the country
- Do other project related assignments as assigned by the supervisor
- 10th Grade Complete and 3rd Grade driving license
- Five (5) or more years’ of experience as a driver. Previous experience working in international organizations and government organization.
- Training certificate in auto mechanics
- Good skill in driving and safely and properly handling vehicle and goods.
- Ability to communicate in English
- Excellent interpersonal communications, relationship-building, and negotiation skills, especially when developing / maintaining contacts and working with staff within and outside the Agency.
- Willingness and experience in travelling to different parts of the country.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- No road safety-related fines or convictions Thorough knowledge of road rules and regulations
- Skills in routine vehicle maintenance and minor repair
- Team spirit and problem solving abilities
- Who display an attitude and behavior that reflects well on both themselves and the Agency.
